TV's First Casualty: Head Cases

The first show to suffer the axe of this young television season is Head Cases. It aired only two episodes, of which I enjoyed both, not many others did. It wasn't a great show, but it was entertaining.

The show starred Chris O'Donnell, who seems to be trying to return to the spotlight, and Adam Goldberg. They portrayed a pair of dysfunctional lawyers who are paired off upon leaving a mental hospital. O'Donnell was the straitlaced trying to get his life back, while Goldberg was the more explosive and wacky of the two.

It was a fun show, a new take on the old ‘odd couple’ formula that didn't catch on with critics or fans. It was drawing very low ratings and it seems the network didn't want to try and cultivate the show’s audience.

Of course, it doesn't help that it was up against Lost. It's hard to compete when the opposition draws 30 million plus to its premiere. Not everything can become a phenomenon; sometimes it takes more than two episodes to get going.

In its place, what do we get? Oh yeah, just what we needed, more reality television. First is Nanny 911 for a couple of weeks, followed by baseball playoffs, and finally the second season of Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy. Yeah, that's a lot more exciting. Thanks Fox....

There were 6 episodes produced, and there is no word on the fate of the unaired 4. Perhaps they will try to market it on DVD?

Not sure I'd call it great, but it was entertaining, and deserved more than two weeks to find it's audience.

The nets are too quick to pull the plug if it isn't a hit out the gate, Fox is a pretty big offender in this regard.

I don't know whether I should comment. But I tried to watch one episode. Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood and I was dead curious as the Brits say.

But I didn't make it through.

Now I wished I had recorded it so could watch it again.

It was heavily (lightly, deftly, badly) panned - and that usually makes me think critics are missing something. It was why I tuned in in the first place.

Or as someone once said: Nobody's kissing my ass, unfortunately. I could use a little. But then again, my personality isn't conducive to butt-kissing.

Krista Allen played O'Donnell's wife. I didn't really see the show as that great, but I was willing to tune in to see Krista.

I didn't think this show was that bad. I'm kind of sad to see it go.

This is a text book case of poor ad campaign (the promos were awful in the sense that they made you not want to watch the show without giving you any actual sense of the real show) placed in a god-awful time slot (against Lost, one of the best shows of this decade already) for two measely eps = swift and brutal cancellation.

Did this show have a chance?

    Will anyone ever really know?

I was so pissed! Where was "Head Cases"? Why didn't I get "George Lopez" either?

The programmers are screwing with us. It's a conspiracy, I tell you!
