TV Review: True Blood's "Shake and Finger Pop" - Page 4

Maryann’s interest in Tara has been the weakest of the season two storylines so far, but it finally looks to be picking up. Tara tries to break her strings to Maryann as she moves out to live with Sookie, but those strings have a lot of stretch. Maryann sends Tara off with well wishes and advice to look after herself, but shows up at Sookie’s house bearing presents—bringing to mind that old adage about Greeks and gifts. When they arrive, Tara thinks the noise she hears means something evil is waiting outside and of course, she’s right—well, at least something very scary and dangerous, even if it is toting a wedding cake. But Tara doesn’t recognise the danger and Maryann doesn’t need an invitation to enter, so Tara is back in the fold.

She’s also back in Egg’s arms, while the party picks up steam. As the revelry passes passionate straight to gluttonous, Tara and Eggs finally fall into bed and Maryann heads to the forest to soak up all the vibes she has unleashed. And to shake until the claws come out. Her claws look very capable of inflicting the kind of wounds three women in Bon Temps have suffered, one literally losing her heart as well. Hopefully, with Deputy Andy hot on the trail of the disappearing pig, her schemes will finally come into focus. I’m hoping Daphne joins Sam in fighting the mysterious Maryann. With Maryann’s claws finally joining her storyline to Sookie’s, all the characters are now on a path to collide. The episode ends with Sookie introducing another new character into the fold, as she chases telepathic Barry the Bellhop down the hotel corridor.

I’m thoroughly enjoying season two and the exploration of family as well as the way religious fervour can be manipulated for quite secular ends. Eric is a particular joy, as are Lafayette and Jessica, and I hope we see a lot more of them as the plot thickens in Dallas and Bon Temps.

Um, it's called The Fellowship of the Sun, not Church of the Light.
