TV Review: The Venture Bros. Season Two Premiere

It's back! Oooh, you can't see it but I'm dancing! A year or so ago (maybe more, maybe less) a great, great animated action comedy called The Venture Bros. was feared dead, with a cliffhanger that left the Venture brothers, Hank and Dean, deader than dead. I mean really, really dead. Finito. At the end of the episode (I think it was called "Return to Spider-Skull Island") we learn through Dr. Venture's words (and his total lack of remorse over the death of his children) that tragedy has befallen the Venture brothers at least once before. He is a brilliant scientist after all, so cloning wouldn't be out of the question.

The Venture ClanSeason Two explains how the whole extended Venture family has dealt with the death of the Venture kids, from their dear ol' Dad (who doesn't really care that much)  to the necromancer Dr. Orpheus, (who cares way too much).

While the Venture's kids have been dead and gone, a new member of the Venture clan has replaced them. Their uncle – um, how do I describe this? – is the hidden underdeveloped twin of Dr. Venture who was crapped out one day and plotted to kill the brother who carried him in his belly for so long. Yeah, that sounds about right. I think Dr. (yes, he's a doctor as well) Jonas Venture, Jr. is going to be my new favorite character. Okay, I lie. Brock (the constantly funny Patrick Warburton) will always be my fave character. The Venture Bros.- Hank And DeanIn teaser commercials for this upcoming series opener, we were led to believe the Venture brothers, Hank and Dean, would not return after being blown to holy hell and burnt to a crisp. I won't go into how they come back, but if you're a fan, you had more than an educated guess that The Venture Bros. is not complete without the bumbling, cowardly, naive brothers in the cast. I have to give "Jackson Publick," Ben Edlund, and the whole creative crew behind The Venture Bros. credit for teasing the fans and leading us to believe they really would go on with the show without them. For a little while into the show, I was afraid they would.
