TV Review: The Two Coreys

Has it really been 20 years since The Lost Boys had me obsessed with Corey Haim, vampires, and Santa Cruz? God, I feel old. But I have to admit, I still have a bit of a thang for Haim, so I am giddy that A&E is bringing The Two Coreys to television.

The “Two” in the title refers to not just Haim, but also the other Corey, last name Feldman, who a few years ago gave his career a much-needed kick in the pants by participating in The Surreal Life and marrying his girlfriend, Susie, in the Surreal Life finale.

The Two Coreys officially starts Sunday, July 29, at 10 p.m., but I was lucky enough to get my hot little hands on a screener of episode three, titled “The Lost Boys” and, well, let’s just say my Haim crush continues. The boy sure has grown up — he’s still got that adorable face, and the tattoos and piercings are a welcome addition.

While I’ve always been a “Haim-er,” I was touched by the kindness Feldman shows his best friend Haim during the episode, first by letting him live in casa Feldman, and then by trying to help Haim get back on track. And all of this while trying to keep his wife happy and his friend from slipping into old habits.

Both Haim and Feldman hit it big in the '80s before hitting drugs even harder. Haim’s credits include Silver Bullet (’85), Murphy’s Romance (’85), and Lucas (’86); Feldman had roles in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (’84), Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (’85), Goonies (’85), and Stand By Me (’86). The pair also starred together in The Lost Boys (’87), License to Drive (’88), and Dream a Little Dream (’89), in addition to four other films.

I’m hoping that as The Two Coreys series unfolds, Haim can find the happiness his best friend Feldman so clearly has, Haim doesn’t ruin a 20-year friendship, and Susie can put up with both Coreys without going insane.
