TV Review: The Gospel View - BET's Sunday Best - No One Eliminated?

Part of: The Gospel View

BET’s Sunday Best aired the top seven contenders on October 30, 2007. As time is nearing the end for all but the one who will be deemed BET’s Sunday Best, the pressure is intense. There is no room for mistakes this late in the game, its coming down to all or nothing. Based on the performances on tonight’s episode, most contestants used their adrenaline to hopefully catapult them into the next round. However, some allowed their nerves to get the best of them and their performances suffered.

First, Shari Addison moved the crowd with “Sing a Song.” She has really opened up since the initial episode and allowed the world to take note of her. The joy she displays while she sings is contagious and the crowd loved her.

Next, Crystal Aikin brought “What’s Going On” to the stage. The girl is bad! She WILL have her own recording contract whether God utilizes BET’s Sunday Best as the avenue is yet to be determined. The way has already been made for her, she has been exposed through BET and… well, the best is yet to come.

Trevon Davis sang “That’s the Way God Planned It.” This is a dapper young man and his vocals are debonair. His performance lacked and I think that hurt him. He held back instead of letting go, and pushing though his emotions. His nervousness should have been used as a driving factor, and compelled him to give the viewers what they’ve seen from him in the past episodes.

“Jesus is Love,” sung by Emily Gomez, didn’t quite measure up to her previous performances. I’ve come to expect her vocals to be at a certain level and was disappointed. It is possible that it could have been the song choice. This song may have been too delicate for her robust voice. There are stiff penalties for minor mistakes sometimes, but let’s hope this isn't one of those times.
