TV Review: The Event: A Second Look and Can Lone Star Be Saved? - Page 2

Poor Lone Star. I reviewed this show back in June when FOX graciously provided the screener. Another hit, I thought. Last week's dismal ratings proved me wrong. A show about an attractive guy who is the worst sort of con man, yet is immensely likable couldn’t fail. Right? Guess I was wrong. Lone Star crawled out of the starting gate and crept away licking its wounds, bound for cancellation.

This is a show that deserves a second chance.

If you are at all a fan of excellent story telling, please give Lone Star a chance. It’s got newcomer James Wolk, playing Bob Allen, the con man leading a double life by dividing his time between two women at either end of Texas. David Keith plays his super sketchy dad and an expert in the art of scamming. It’s got Jon Voigt (fer chrissakes!) as the super wealthy business owner, Allen plans on conning. And all along Allen professes he wants out, that he cares about these people and doesn’t want to hurt them. I’d be really interested to see where this goes.

Fortunately FOX plans on airing another episode Monday at 9. Don't let it be the last. Please hang around after House to watch. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

The Event airs on NBC, Mondays at 9 PM ET; Lone Star airs the same time on FOX. Watch one, DVR the other!

I agree. Both of those shows were my two favorite pilots from last week, and I watched almost every new pilot!
