TV Review: The Daily Show - 4/4/06 - Page 3

Part of: Media Reality Check

Has John McCain's Straight Talk Express been re-routed through Bullshit Town? You know who we can ask? Sen. John McCain.""Senator, what is going on?" Stewart asked.

"Before I bring on my two attorneys..," McCain said, quoting McKinney's statement. He also joked that he is going to Liberty so he can get in the news and be on The Daily Show again.

McCain said he is going to give Liberty University students the same message he gives at other universities – public service is good. He invited Stewart to come sit next to Falwell when he gives the speech.

"Is that so that if the rapture happens during the speech somebody can be there to clean up all the clothes?" Stewart asked.

"Exactly. And you probably have lots of fans there at Liberty University," McCain said.

"You are killing me here. I feel like it is condoning of Falwell's crazy-making to have you go down there," Stewart said.

He is going there to speak to the students, at the request of Falwell, but his message will be the same at other places, McCain said.

Stewart: "Is it not the kind of thing that, maybe if you don't go there, it helps to keep marginalizing guys like that, or do I misunderstand politics? Maybe I misunderstand things."

Stewart: "Are you freaking out on us?"
McCain: "Just a little."
Stewart: "I hope you know what you are doing there."

Stewart asked McCain if he feels nausea when he sees Fallwell. "I will give him your love," McCain said.

Oh yeah that was a great show last night. McCain really held his own on the show and even stumped Stewart.

I youtubed the video on my blog if anyone wants to check it out

I don't if it's Stewart or the current events but TDS is on fire these days.

McCain isn't impressing me with his Falwell pandering, it's like he's got too much of a radical reputation so he has to prove he's conservative enough. Pro-Falwell is too conservative for me.

Indeed. I was just talking performance wise. He wasn't a boring stiff like most politicians who show up on TDS. I found him pretty funny.

McCain seems to have a good sense of humor and doesn't take himself too seriously.
Thats; two important things that I like about him.
The pandering sucks but I'm impressed both with how Stewart covered it and how McCain didn't try to bs or hide from it.

Agreed. But how, had he tried, could he not look like a bullshiter after the hard questions he was being asked. Stewart is extremely smart and quick, it's no wonder he killed Crossfire in under 5 minutes.

The show is all repeats this week so I'm not planning on writing another Daily Show review until next weeked when I'll start writing weekly, instead of daily, show reviews.
