TV Review: The Biggest Loser - Episode 10

Part of: The Biggest Loser

The Biggest Loser in tonight’s show was the creator of the “Temptation Round.”

The “Temptation Round,” in which players are always made to eat junk food, was truly revolting this week. Each player had to “buy” something from a rigged vending machine. If junk food came out, they had to eat it. They could walk away or keep trying to obtain the sugar free gum which would give them cash and enable them to eat a piece of gum instead of whatever empty-calorie food dropped next. They could keep trying until they won a one-pound pass that would take one pound off their total weight loss for the week.

Roger pulled gum right away, then junk food, then the one pound pass. Dan ate 1,100 calories in junk food before winning $9,500. Jay won a one-pound pass right away. Kelly ate a Twinkie and three candy bars before giving up. Watching these people who have worked so diligently almost vomit from the rapid consumption of junk food was disgusting. I truly wish that bingeing was not incorporated into this show.

From having won the “biggest loser” title last week, Bernie was able to grant any player besides himself immunity. He gave immunity to Brittany.

The contestants also took a field trip to the hospital where they were given wonderful results from their physicals. In their first week at the ranch, they had initially been told that they were morbidly obese and the doctor had taken them to visit the morgue to scare them.

Kelly learned that after 3 miscarriages and 2 ectopic pregnancies, her chances of conception and full term pregnancy were now drastically increased. Roger learned that his sleep apnea was much improved.  Roger was also given some pointers regarding healthy food options to bring to a tailgate party and said, “I might write a damn book about it.” I hope he does.

Before the weigh in, the contestants were told that the "teams" were now dissolved. The "yellow line" was brought back and the two people who lost the least amount would be up for elimination. Bernie and Kelly fell below the yellow line.

In the end, Bernie, as the bigger threat was voted off the show. This was a good competitive decision but it is upsetting since he was the most unique, happy, person in the competition. Everything he said made me laugh and he made the show worth watching.

The players that remain are Kelly, Maggie, Brittany, Dan, Jay and Roger and they are now competing as individuals for the $250,000 prize.

I really like this show and have been a devoted fan since season 1. However, to me, Bob destroyed this season by picking all big boys when given the chance and the girls are at an extreme disadvantage, physically, in most of the challenges. Jillian was spot on last night in her chastisement of host for grilling Brittany. It IS unrealistic to think the girls, as a whole, are on par physically with the boys. There are exceptions, but, generally, girls don't lose weight in the same way boys do, and to make them lift a HUGE tire and do "boot camp" as part of a challenge and expect them to match the guys is just plain stupid and a little degrading. It certainly has given some of the men (Dan) a false sense of superiority. If I see them do that stupid "Proud" chant one more time, I'm going to change the channel. "Proud" for what? Beating a group of girls? It's so misogynistic.

It is never going to be fair until they have one man and one woman Biggest Loser per Series. I actually think that is what they will end up doing in the end anyway.

    BIGGEST LOSER IS RIGGED!!!

I AM A BIOCHEMIST AND KNOW NOW THAT BIGGEST LOSER IS RIGGED. THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT LEVELS AT WHICH MANY VARIABLES CAN BE TWEAKED WHETHER IT IS THE NUTRITION, THE WORKOUTS AND THEIR INTENSITY OR THE CHALLENGES OR THE TEMPTATIONS. I HAVE WATCHED SEVERAL SEASONS AND IT STRIKES ME AS UNFAIR, BIASED AND SIMPLY CRUEL THAT IN CERTAIN EPISODES CHALLENGES ARE GEARED TO ONE TEAM OR INDIVIDUAL, BUT THE MOST CRUEL YET UNDENIABLE FACT IS THAT THE TRAINERS ARE IN ON IT PROBABLY BECAUSE THEIR JOBS ARE IN JEOPARDY. FOR INSTANCE NOTICE HOW THE TRAINERS INCREASE OR DECREASE THE INTENSITY ON THEIR WORKOUTS SO THAT CERTAIN GROUPS DO BETTER OR WORSE. I WOULD LIKE TO GET INTO MORE DETAILED ANALYSIS BUT THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE TOO TECHNICAL FOR THIS FORUM. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE RATINGS ARE THE DRIVING FORCE NOT THE HEALTH AND WEIGHT LOSS
