TV Review: The Bank of Mom and Dad Becomes The Bank of Mom and Chad

Faroosh Torabi is to The Bank of Mom and Dad what Suze Orman is to the Oprah Winfrey Show. She is truly a ball of financial knowledge, and tries to impart financial wisdom to young women who’ve gotten into a world of trouble, spending frivolously. In this episode, Torabi is passionate to say the least. She usually keeps it real, but I have to say she made such an all-out effort for Julie that I stood up and took notice. Once again, we are introduced to a young lady whose wayward manners have plummeted her into the depths of financial troubles.

Julie is a 27-year-old former NFL cheerleader who is currently a dental assistant. Although Julie is not an NFL cheerleader anymore, she still desires the attention and fancy lifestyle she previously had. Unfortunately, Julie’s perception is not the reality. Julie is in such financial hardship that she sleeps on her brother’s couch and depends on her mother to help her meet her financial obligations. Seeing as Julie lives with her brother, her mom (Denise) moves in with Julie and Chad in hopes of getting Julie to see that she is jeopardizing her future.

While watching this episode, I couldn’t help but call this week’s guest a stubborn brat. Get this — while Julie constantly asks her mom and brother to help with her bills, we find out that Julie is actually overspending her monthly income by $604. Now, you should realize that Julie is doing all of this spending without making any dent in her debt. Not only does she continue to spend outrageously, it takes this intervention for Denise to find out that her daughter has shamefully spent her pension money on such electives as lip injections, as well as shopping and bars.
