TV Review: Survivor: Guatemala - Week Three

Part of: Survivor

The Cast
(Stephanie and Bobby-John not shown)

The third week of survivor Guatemala started out with a recap of last week's episode, and then we move to: Life In Jungle Camp!

Despite winning the "better camp", NAKÚM is plagued by a Howler Monkey that seems to be driving the tribe crazy. I'm not sure if there are rules against harassing the wildlife, but I'd have started chucking rocks at that noisy bastard about five minutes in. Not very PC, but a howler monkey is a howler monkey... Got Rocks?

Reward Challenge

This competition is for all the fixings for a more comfortable camp. Tarp, blankets, pillows, and enough ropes to turn the tarp into a tent. Decent!

Here's the deal. All but one of the tribe members are blindfolded and tied together in a chain, the remaining member uses vocal commands to direct the others to locate and gather ten packets of an "Archeologist's Tent". Once the ten packets are assembled in a pile, it's "blindfolds off" and build the tent.

YAXHà takes an early lead under the direction of Stephanie, but falters with the construction of the tent. NAKÚM catches up, and is damn fast with the sorting of the tent parts....

NAKÚM wins reward!

So it's back to camp. YAXHÃ is short of food. Corn mush for seven days has got to be rough. A few tribe members are shown eating termites, but it's not a serious chow-fest. No effort seems to be put into the gathering of other food, the bloody murder of a croc, or the search for snakes, lizards, or other edible wildlife. What's up with that?

NAKÚM is pretty pathetic too. Watching them debate how to build a shelter with the tarp really drives home the point that these are basically city folks. Margaret puts forward some suggestions that rub two of the macho dudes the wrong way. This leads to the best line from tonight's show.

Judd needs a little attitude adjustment. His wife isn't in the jungle with him, is she? He best learn to work with the rest of the tribe and grumble a little less.

Heh! I agree Joan. This goof-ball is still well liked by my wife. It really makes me wonder what she sees in ME!

(I don't think I'm anything like Judd, but I could be wrong...)
