Hold on.
Two weeks away from the So You Think You Can Dance finale?!
What are you smoking, FOX? I'm not ready! I haven't gotten over my initial boredom to fall in love with Mia Michaels all over again!
Oh well. With so little time left for me to ponder this show and its infinite mysteries, I'm gonna focus exclusively on what really matters: The DANCE.
And Toni Basil.
Will and Courtney's samba: Will was a bit stiff, and Courtney seemed to be trying too hard; the pair of them looked like one of those videos you watch online where the sound runs slightly behind the image, and it's all out of sync.
Someone needs to inform Mary Murphy that Punk'd has been off the air for a few years, and "Where's Ashton?" references are going over the heads of her target audience, who were probably nine years old when that show was popular.
Katee and Twitch's contemporary: Did the teenyboppers just scream for Mia Michaels? That's awesome. And was that a fake open-mouth kiss, or did these two crazy kids just stick their tongues down each other's throats? Great choreography, and actually kinda fun and dynamic, which is a change for Mia, who seems to prefer dancers writhing around on a bed and/or floor, seemingly in agony and/or gas pains. Katee is like a precision-crafted dancing blade that can cut through aluminum cans.
I hope Nigel realizes he's not fooling anyone with his "oh, I really do like chicks, lookit my jokes about sleeping with them" bits.
Comfort and Mark's hip-hop: I'm beginning to suspect that Tabitha and Napoleon are some kind of freakish dancing Siamese twins. They are never interviewed unless they are practically laying on top of each other. Trying to watch Mark do hip-hop made me uncomfortable. I threw up a little in my mouth.
Joshua and Chelsie's tango: Chelsie and Katee are definite favorites to win, but Joshua's got serious skills too; his flexibility over the course of the season has been amazing, and this number was no exception. These dancers both have incredible presence and technique; this was an intense, gratifying number. Meticulous and precise. Every step cut.
