Back in July, the dead of summer, where there is usually no decent television to speak of, So You Think You Can Dance hit the airwaves on FOX. It followed on the heels of the highly popular Dancing With The Stars on ABC. Now if you check back on my reviews of the show I wasn't the biggest fan of the early episodes. The audition process dragged on much longer than necessary. I'm not a dancer, but maybe someone with dance training enjoyed this coverage. However, almost six hours of auditions didn't make for entertaining television.…

And also i want to mention that I also liked the hollywood part very much because it showed the personality of the contestants. There were some funny moments, happy moments, and bizarre moments. All the different personalities and talent they showed was very entertaining. It also showed how hard they were working and how much determination they had. Did you know that Destini was the one who defended Blake from the other people who were bad-mouthing him just because they were jealous? I wish I saw this forum earlier :(. Well that's all I have to say. Bye...

Julane, point well taken. Thanks. My post was not necessarily directed to you. It was directed to all who were saying that sexiness and beauty doesnt matter and are harping because Melody has it. Like it's a plague to be beautiful. You know in singing, it might not matter so much compared to dancing. In singing, there are brilliant singers who are heavy. Aretha, Luciano Pavarotti, Luther etc. They are all brilliant. In dancing, it does matter more so because it affects the movement, flow of music, lifts, and stage presence. Among the four women (Melody, Ashley, Kamilah, Melissa), Ashley was the only one left who was big boned (not fat) Im sorry but she has a bigger built. Someone said, she has a swimmers body. The best dancers in the world are pettite because it really affects the flow of movement and lifts. In this show, you dont need a ballerina type body because you have to dance all types of dances but have to be pettite. I know this might strike a chord with other people but it's reality.

There have been a lot of fabulous dancers with long legs, like Gwen Verdon, Ginger Rogers, etc. Most of the successful ballroom and Broadway-style dancers have very long legs, even if they aren't especially tall--their legs are long in proportion to their torsos. Melody is tiny and not particularly long-limbed, and it is a tribute to her skill and grace that she can do extensions and otherwise use what she's got so well. Melissa is also on the short side; Ashlé and Kamilah have the long, lean limbs and know how to use them (remember the samba that she and Blake reprised during the final show? Hot legs!). Your point is well taken that physicality matters, but I think the important thing is to know what you've got and use that to best advantage. Allan is a great example--he certainly does not have the typical dancer's physique but he can really move.

Hey guys---I'm back from vacation and just finished reading all the posts. I'm gonna miss this blog and all the great comments. And boy, am I gonna miss the show! Anyway, first thing when I returned I watched the DVR of the final show (thanks Regina for your great as always critique!). I know it's really old news by now but I am so happy Nick won and I agree with those who can't figure out why Ashle only got 8% of the vote! Oh, and I caught a mere glimpse of Artem during the 16-finalists-return dance and now I miss him all over again. Blake? He will go far with or without the show! My favorites are, in order: Nick/Blake tie, Artem, Ashle/Melody tie, Melissa (and I am not gender-biased, or racist, hee hee--it's just my humble opinion). The dancers were so darned good it was just so hard to pick one that was the best! Congratulations to Nick and all the finalists. I hope you go far with your careers! Wouldn't it be cool if they had a follow-up show in a year or so with all 16 finalists? Till next year...........

Victoria, I'm with you in hoping that next season they follow up with this season's finalists to see what they've been up to. It will be interesting to see how things play out for Nick in NYC and also for the others--I hope that people like Jamile and Ryan, who have so much raw talent but not a lot of training, will pursue some educational opportunities and progress in their careers. I would also like to see whether any of them pursue other performing arts, like singing or acting--they didn't really ask any of the dancers about other artistic interests they may have and I suspect some of them have other talents. It would also be great to see clips of the ballroom dancers like Artem and Snow performing with their partners.
I think we should all meet back here in the blogosphere for the next season of So You Think You Can Dance and/or Dancing With the Stars. See you then!

Julane, you're spot on about Melody, very articulate, and maybe it just takes dance experience to see it. Fortunately, she DID improve a lot once she got out of her "Melody box," as one of the judges put it. Two of her dances--with Alan and with Jamile--were really great. NICK IS TRULY PHENOMENAL, and I agree with the judge who said he could become a LEGEND. Artem should have been a finalist--actually, I thought he might win, 'tho Nick was my favorite by far. Nick had dances that were much more demanding and required more versatility, and I think that made the difference, plus Artem didn't radiate warmth like Nick. When Artem was chosen as one of the two worst couples, there was nothing wrong with their dancing, I think the judges thought he'd stay and Jamile would be voted off since Artem, Nick and Blake were the best dancers. However, they didn't realize Jamile would stay in because of his popularity--Jamile is talented and a great guy, but not a great dancer like the other three. Or maybe the judges thought Artem seemed too gay and the network wouldn't have wanted him to win. Blake seemed good, but he was missing something, some kind of strength. Anyway, I'm thrilled that NICK won, and I hope he'll share the apartment with his best friend (and more?!) Melody so she can get some good dance and acting lessons and develop her potential.

I am so glad this show came on! I gettnig tierd of seeing American Idol over and over again. Now people can see why dancers work so hard! People can also see that dancing is not as easy as it looks. As a dancer, I see these dancers that are picked and all I keep thinking is that could be me one day. All the dancers picked to be on the had the one major thing that talent agency's are looking for "THE X FACOTOR!" And let you all know thats going to be me soon! Lol. Another thng was the last eposide of So do u think you can dance?, it was so dam amzing. It gave me chills. I am glad that nick won, he deserves it. And It was school that his best friend Melody was happy for him! SO ya! I LOVE TO DANCE AND I LOVE SO DO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!

I got to dance with nick Lazzarini at a dance work shop called "jump". I was so happ and he is definetley not GAY! he funny, charming and a amazing dancer. he deserved to win this! P.S. i watched every episode.
