TV Review: NCIS - “Chimera" - Page 5

The episode closes with Gibbs and the team on the Russian assault craft Dinozzo holds up papers he has found on the craft which are in Russian. Gibbs, fluent in Russian, reads and identifies them as Russian navy orders. Gibbs Instructs McGee to open the chest revealing nuclear warheads. McGee concludes aloud that it was Russian navy ( and not pirates) trying to recover nuclear weapons that US Navy did not think that the Russians knew the US found. Ducky suggests that should tell the Navy that the Russians are on the Chimera and that the NCIS team are on the pirate boat. At about that time, a missile strikes the Chimera destroying it. Ziva queries "how did they know we got off the boat?" Deadpan Gibbs gives the Black Ops answer "I don’t think they did".

Not without its charms, “Chimera” is no diamond episodes. The ending is compelling and exciting but the Commander’s come-on to the Director was beneath the writers and the lack of a Halloween theme (except for a deserted ship) marred what otherwise could have been a descent episode. The uncertainty in the end saved the episode and we can only hope for more and better episodes this season.

It seems to me that portraying our military in any fashion such as this where it was clearly inferred our military forces knowingly and intentionally attempted to take out some of our own is more than distasteful. It is revolting and unworthy of what otherwise would be an entertaining series. The American military does not eat it's own despite the so-called entertainment factor. Lest we forget, there are impressional minds watching that often truly believe this sort of thing is close to if not reality based and can't fathom the difference at times.
