TV Review: NCIS - “Chimera" - Page 4

The Director re-establishes communications with the Commander and is read in on the biohazard warfare testing which is nationally illegal. The Director insists that the Commander dispatch fly someone to the ship to have it on film. On board DiNozzo and McGee discover that the life jackets signaling transponders do not have batteries indicating that sabotage was committed on the ones who fled the ship. Ducky discovers that Takata was first drugged and then injected with the virus that killed him to provide a red herring for the investigative team. As it turns out the rat DiNozzo found had bitten Takata and subsequently died and therefore is not and airborne virus.

With the team is safe from biological hazard, the lights come on and the team congratulate McGee who informs them he did not fix them. Ziva is now certain that someone else is on board that remains unidentified. Gibbs concurs when he spots a signal light on the deck that wasn’t present before. The team is nearly crushed by falling cargo examining the signal and catch Navy Lt. Sean Ferris (James O'Shea), the communications officer, who promptly informs them that they will die and not from virus. The team subsequently arrest him.

The Director and the Commander inform Gibbs that pirates of unknown origins are heading for them. Gibbs demands to know what the pirates are after and is told that it is the virus isolated by Takata. McGee breaks into the biohazard room. Ever impatient, Gibbs storms into the room and lifts lid on a modern steel chest, looking grimly surprised at the contents. Ziva reports the pirates have an ETA of 5 minutes. The team springs into action, loading weapons and the like. The deck is brightly lighted by morning daylight.

It seems to me that portraying our military in any fashion such as this where it was clearly inferred our military forces knowingly and intentionally attempted to take out some of our own is more than distasteful. It is revolting and unworthy of what otherwise would be an entertaining series. The American military does not eat it's own despite the so-called entertainment factor. Lest we forget, there are impressional minds watching that often truly believe this sort of thing is close to if not reality based and can't fathom the difference at times.
