We’re not sure whether we are happy or confused, but before anyone can react, Jack comes out from the bathroom. “Hey, have you seen my…”
Yeah, this is one of those moments you wish you could rewind or erase. It doesn’t take Bobby long to realize what’s going on, we see it in his eyes - the shock and betrayal.
And just like that, it’s over.
There have been a lot of successful sitcoms over the years. There are the slow, gentle, yet witty family comedies like Cosby or Everybody Loves Raymond, the brisk workplace sitcom such as Murphy Brown or the quirkier, frenetic type shows like Scrubs. My Boys has been able to incorporate comic timing, genuinely funny writing, and apt characterization into a funny half-hour show.
Boys also manages to touch on real life issues without being overly cloying or preaching. Last season’s episode, “When Heroes Fall from Grace” dealt with that sinking feeling that you get when an idol, mentor or hero turns out to be a fragile human being. Not a monster, just not the superhero you imagined them to be. And this season, Andy’s “Work Wife” situation showed us that sometimes we don’t know when we are close to crossing that line.
We can only hope that a show that’s been compared to other well-received series such as Sex and the City and Friends manages to garner as much viewership and support.
* Brief apology for vacations, Olympics, and computer network issues contributing to the lateness of this post. But hey, when you love something, it’s never too late to say it!
**Episode 2.9 was not exactly a season finale; it appears that My Boys will continue season two at a later date with hopefully another nine or so episodes, in the same fashion that season one was split.
