Unfortunately, some of the finery does not hold up. During one of the many pre-nuptial parties, barbecues, and wine tastings, Jack, instead of toasting the bride and groom, started roasting Bobby, which led to a push here, a shove there, and a drink is splashed all over lovely Elsa’s dress. Then the two boys actually begin wrestling on the ground while the guests watch with dropped jaws. It gets worse when PJ later tries to talk with Jack, pointing out that he probably shared in the blame, at least a little. Jack felt cornered, and ended up leaving the ranch altogether.
And a huge shocker (although, I must admit, I saw it coming) is the wine-induced hooking up of Steph and Kenny. Will this turn into something à la Chandler and Monica? Somehow, I really don’t think so.
The next morning, PJ feels awful, so does Bobby, and he’s nearly ready to have no Best Man at all. But then it’s decided that Kenny, Mike and Brando will share the speech making, flask holding, and ring-bearing duties. But what will Andy do? Officiate, of course. The regularly scheduled minister wasn’t able to make it, so Andy, replete with his online ordination certificate, willingly steps in. He takes it so seriously, that he skips the rehearsal dinner in order to work on his sermon. (Gotta love that Jim G., he’s got such a wonderful dry comic delivery.)
And as it turns out, Jack does not skip the rehearsal dinner, much to everyone – especially PJ’s – relief. He makes a great, heartfelt speech about Bobby’s patience and faith that good things will come to him. Later, as the evening winds down, the rest of the gang make speeches of their own, each offering sage and poignant remarks. This was one of my favorite moments; as much as I enjoy the quick repartee, digs and jabs between the characters, it was good to see the love flow. Bobby seemed pleased and content.
But later we see him approach Andy for some late night wedding advice. Andy counsels him, relating the story of his and Meredith’s bumpy start, but stating that they had both realized they were marrying their best friend, and that was what worked. It looks like this helps our Bobby. But wait… as the series credits just start to roll, we see him knocking on one more door. No, no Bobby, don’t do it. Or maybe yes… yes, you know you really love her.
And the door opens.
And it’s, yes, it’s PJ.
“I think I’m marrying the wrong woman.”
