This season, she raised money for V-Day, a charity to prevent violence against women and girls. This time, instead of a party, she auctioned on eBay a weekend slumber party at her house. At first, the bidding was incredible until the winner backed out and down the list they went until they got to Michael. I think anyone in the public eye who watched this episode now really understands the need of a background check before letting someone in their home.

Michael didn't try to hack them to death in their sleep. He just skulked around complaining at every opportunity. Kathy took him to a red carpet event and he acted like he didn't know anyone. Kathy received a gift bag for presenting at the event and excitedly gave it to Michael. He picked through it and gave it all back without even a thank you. He packed and walked out the door; Kathy and her husband Matt had to chase after him to say goodbye. Then, as they are in the other room he walks back in unannounced and she catches him on the steps going upstairs. He said he came back to get an iPod out of the many he was told she keeps in her closet. One of Kathy's friends had made a joke about celebrities keeping a closet full of iPods. He didn't even ask, he was just going to take one.

There is a lot of talk about this houseguest-from-hell online. It was clear, to me anyway, he was obsessed with a former Spice Girl and was hoping Kathy would find a way for him to meet her. I guess he thinks all celebrities know each other. He continues to brag on a fan board that he was great PR for this singer. If anything, at least he provided a warning to the singer's people to look out for him. He won this opportunity by bidding and paying $5,000. My guess is he maxed out a credit card, feeling it was worth it for a chance to meet his prey.

I felt there was a risk of something like this happening. I enjoy Kathy, but there is one thing that drives me crazy. When she talks about giving to charity, she also says it's great publicity. With the Toys For Tots event, she got free furniture. Karma came back to bite her in the ass when her puppy chewed up the $25,000 custom-made leather couch. This season she got the publicity for visiting a sick fan and for the eBay auction, but karma caught up with her again when Michael showed up. He used her to try to get to his idol. She uses charity as a way to get things for herself. She doesn't deny it. In fact, she's the first to say she's a publicity whore. At least the charities do benefit, even if not for altruistic reasons on her part. I think the most self-sacrificing thing she has done will be seen on an upcoming episode. Kathy, Matt, and a couple of comic friends went to Iraq to entertain the troops. They faced a genuine risk to their personal safety to bring laughter to a war zone. I have to say this act alone makes up for the publicity whore behavior in the past, though I still hope for less of it in the future.

Kathy Griffin did not get a free couch. She tried to get one, the mfg turned her down, and then agreed to give her a discounted price as long as she didn't reveal what the price was. It was all on her show if you watched the episode.

I've watched every episode....she calls herself a publicisty whore...does things to see what it can get her....but like I said in the article...the trip to Iraq totally redeems this behavior.
