TV Review: Jericho - Season Premiere - Page 2

Part of: What's on the Gogglebox

Meanwhile in town, things seem to be taking a darker turn with a near riot at the gas station that put me in mind of a scene from Spielberg’s War of the Worlds. What Tom Cruise didn’t realise was that all he needed to do was give a stirring speech and everyone would calm down. Gray Anderson, the Mayor’s rival, gives the speech. When the Mayor comes on the scene, he finds the ire of the crowd now turned on him. Luckily Jake picks that moment to arrive with the school bus. Being a politician, he can’t resist giving a speech, this one is the kind of over sentimental bullshit that had me reaching for a sick bag.

While this episode has Jericho coming across as a modern day Waltons with added holocaust there are hints that the series may turn a little darker. At least one other bomb has gone off in Atlanta (thankfully, a kid’s mom was on vacation there and picked the moment of detonation to call or we wouldn’t know about it!) Plus a second bus is found, this one a prison transport and it’s empty. Lets hope the escapees stir things up a bit.

They should've just called this show "Everwood: The Nuclear Years".

It's over sentimental nonsense written by a pair of half-wit Christians no doubt. It's all about family values, community spirit, and sticking by each other yadda, yadda, yadda. I don't even know my next door neighbour's name for crying out loud.

It's as bad as that Invasion show that was cancelled. There's no wit or humour anywhere to be seen.

    I totally disagree.
I LOVE Jericho and watch it every week.
And there IS humor thanks to Gerald McRaney.
    Suspense and mystery as well.
You should really give it another try.
Thanks CBS for a GREAT show!

I've already watched the first 4 episodes. Gerald McRaney was the least funny character in the entire show, with his puke-enducing speeches.

The geek guy and the popular girl might aswell just have sex now.

The music is extremely annoying too, as the article above says. Sometimes I just want it to shut up so I can enjoy what could've been a decent scene.

There was a hilarious bit in episode 4 where the black guy who seems to be evil, tells his daughter, in no uncertain terms, that she'll be extremely afraid if she disobeys him again, but the soundtrack was a light and sentimental sounding which made me think he was going to tell her he loved her or something. It wasn't intended by the makers to surprise you, it was just a total mess.
