Overall, High School Musical 2 is a blast, a perfect capper to the summer of 2007. Although it's not better than the original, it's not worse either. Even though it's technically a “bigger” film than the previous one, it's also more focused on relationships. The relationships between Troy and Gabriella, Troy and his friends, Ryan and the Wildcats, and Sharpay and Troy are what ultimately drive the film. Moreover, with a certain emphasis upon the uncertainty of the future and the pressure to choose between friends and family and individual success, it goes for heavier issues than the last movie.
It's going to be a treat to watch this film again during one of its many airings on Disney Channel. If the next frontier for the High School Musical franchise is the big screen (as long rumored), then I can't wait to see what the people behind these films can do with a bigger canvas and a bigger budget.

Great review. By the way, I didn't know that about Efron in the first film. Do you know which songs he did and didn't sing? That's interesting because he was so good in Hairspray and I just assumed he had sung all his songs in the original.

Better than Godfather 2---perhaps the greatest sequel ever? G2 was winner of the Academy's Best Picture award. You have to be kidding. Your review loses all credibilty with that assessment that this movie is on par with such a movie. Did you see the same movie that I did in High School Musical 2--a movie in which lip syncing was extremely poor-- a forced plot--and a plot missing the impact of the first film? I mean in the first film the impact was that you don't have to remain in your clique in High School. But in this one, what's the point?--if a rich girl sweeps you off your feet with her financial influence don't forget your friends that you left behind. Sorry but its not a truism that most high schoolers can relate. Yet, in the first film, most could relate to being pigeon holed by a clique.

this movie was by far the worst movie ever...it doesnt even compare to the first one .it is far more cheesy, the songs arent as catchy with the exception of maybe one, and the plot is horrible. terrible job disney.maybe next time
