TV Review: Gilmore Girls Episode 6.7

Part of: Gilmore Girls

This week's Gilmore Girls opens with Richard telling Lorelai they need a plan to fix Rory’s life. He is pretty upset that she is comfortable in her life away from school. You, dear commenters, called it. He doesn’t want her to become Emily. Is it okay to attempt to bribe someone to go to school? I think not, and Lorelai stands her ground with not wanting to “buy” Rory into going back to Yale. Go Lorelai!

As much as I think the relationship between Rory and Logan is missing in chemistry, at least they aren’t all cuddly in their sleep. For some reason that seems more fitting. All they do is make out; there hasn’t really been the same connection with him that she had with Dean or Jess. At least he’s still eye candy… But Richard and Emily aren’t cool with their smoochiness either. They dislike it so much that they invite a minister to dinner to have “the talk” with her, and they move Rory from the pool house to the room next to Richard and Emily’s.

If you have been watching this season, you’re well aware that Rory and Lorelai aren’t exactly on speaking terms. This is getting extremely old. Luke thinks it is getting old. And finally Lorelai is getting sick of it, too. Rory is also admitting that she misses her mother.

Rory turns 21 and Emily creates a signature drink, The Rory—champagne, vodka, pineapple juice and grenadine. Luke likens it to drinking a My Little Pony. Rory and Lorelai finally talk. Kind of. Maybe soon. It better be soon.

What am I looking forward to? Jess is coming back! Apparently he calls out Rory for who she has become. Please, oh please let that be the wake up call she needs. CORRECTIONS:LM

I thought the 11/15 episode was one of the weaker ones in the series. Very soap opera in nature.

Did we really need Luke to have a "deep dark secret?" I don't think so. The girl over-acted, and the writing for her was ridiculous. And if the girl's mother is not interested in having Luke be a part of the girl's life, what's the point of the plot line?

I also thought the whole "emily wants to buy a plane" bit was silly. There were other ways to have that conversation between Lorelai and Emily, in a more reasonable location. I found it to be very lazy use of the characters.

The show is juggling a lot of balls, which is fine. But it should avoid sweeps month stunts that have the potential to ruin the show.
