As anyone who regularly watches Fringe knows, the most compelling part of the show has been seeing how dots get connected. From day one, a "Pattern" has been playing out but nothing so far has shown who was responsible for it or why it was taking place. The one thing known for sure is that when one strange incident takes place, identical ones happen in various locations around the world.
The other big issue hanging over everything? The story of Agent Scott (Mark Valley), whose death in the pilot episode brought even more questions. For example, which group was he truly working for? A government intelligence agency is not keen on having traitors, but he died before anybody could talk to him and find out exactly what he was doing. Even Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), his love interest and colleague, was left in the dark.
I admit, Valley is a big reason of why I watch the show. He's a solid actor with enough depth to portray a wide range of characters. His good looks don't hurt, either. I always suspected John Scott had a compelling reason to be secretive, and the writers have wisely taken advantage of Valley's military background and created a dynamic man who can draw viewers in and still hide an ace up his sleeve. Okay, the details have been adjusted slightly between Valley and Scott. Valley graduated from West Point, making him an Army man. He's been cast as a Marine twice though, both in this show and Boston Legal. A Navy SEAL might have made sense, but I only review, not write scripts.
Agent Scott remains in Massive Dynamics, at least his body does. Nina Sharp (Blair Brown) and Philip Broyles (Lance Reddick) told Olivia the truth about Scott's being transported to the lab rather than grave.
