TV Review: CSI:NY

CSI:NY has returned, just as gritty as ever. At least one thing has changed. The medical examiner from last season has become a field agent. In keeping with the eclectic makeup of New York citizens, the new medical examiner brings his own unique style to the show. The former medical examiner, Hawkes, brings his wide range of knowledge of various trivial matters to Mac Taylor's team.

No name yet for the new doctor, but that should be offered in time.

When this episode opens, Mac and Hawkes are investigating the death of a man who fell from a skyscraper. Since he fell from the 34th floor, that alone would have been suffcient to kill him. This was not a window washer, however. At least they have enough sense to use scaffolding. This was a guy CLIMBING up the building's side.

No gory details shown, one can imagine a rather nasty death. The bullet in the man's chest indicates murder, however.

Upon further investigation of the crime scene, Taylor walks to a boardroom in a law firm, Hawkes not far behind. A dead body tumbles out when they open the door, one of the two senior partners. And the only witness to either death is a mosquito.

Luckily for Mac, the skeeter is female. Only female mosquitos bite, so she would have bitten the guy who fell and his shooter.

Not content to leave the storyline on two corpses, writers put in a dead guy found at the bottom of stairs going down to a tunnel-like area. Danny finds Aiden and Stella processing the scene. Because the poor man is wearing a diamond bra, Danny naturally makes a smart remark. Aiden is annoyed, but the three figure out that the man is the designer of that particular undergarment.

Danny goes to interview the model who does ads with the bra. She says that the designer left the photo shoot alone, which is unusual for him.

When the detectives get back to the lab, Aiden gets a phone call and quickly leaves. Danny glances at her, wondering what the problem is, but stays put and continues to work on his case.

It turns out that a woman has been raped, by the same person who raped her eighteen months ago. NYPD wasn't able to make an arrest then. Aiden is bothered by being fairly certain who the guy is, but unable to do much about it without the woman's testimony.
Mac reassigned Aiden to work on gathering evidence to catch the rapist. Stella later tells Aiden that they are not always able to fix everything.

Stella locates the diamond missing from that previously mentioned bra. It's hanging on the Christmas tree at the photo shoot. She and Danny go back and arrest the model on theft charges. The dead designer died when the model's bodyguard punched him in the chest, causing the designer to fatally choke on a fake version of the diamond.

As for the skyscraper duo, a junior associate in the law firm shot both men. The senior partner was shot in revenge for taking a new wife, and the guy who fell was caught as he spotted the shooting. The ex-wife was involved with the junior associate.

New York has never been a city to remain standing still for long, always changing amidst its normal hustle and bustle. Look for one of the six CSI members to leave the team soon. And then watch the dynamics shift

This is one of the few episodes of CSI:NY that I've watched all the way through. I'm having such a hard time getting into this one. I love Sinise and Kanakaredes, but the rest of the cast leave me cold.

I'm watching Carmine, the guy who plays Danny. He and Eddie Cahill (Flack) are hot!
