TV Review: CSI:NY - "Shes Not There"

Part of: CSI:NY

Now that the Grammys are over, Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) and his team are back in action. I enjoyed seeing the action start in Times Square. The montage of girls enjoying themselves mixed with a man wandering the streets really gave me the feeling of being in New York.

A crime show would not be one without the law being broken, however, and this time is no exception. Dr. Sheldon Hawkes (Hill Harper) easily figures out the cause of death: stab wound. Det. Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes) tests the victim's shirt back at the lab, which has a wound at an awkward angle. Someone else is the guilty party.

Viewers got to see Julia Ormond again as Inspector Gillian Whitford, Mac's new boss. Putting her and Gary together was a nice touch. These two are well-established actors who can clearly hold their own. As I watched Mac confront Gillian about the real cause of her outburst, I got acting lessons from a master in action.

My favorite part was the chase scene with Det. Don Flack (Eddie Cahill) and Det. Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo). These two have a great chemistry. While each has his own personality, their professional teamwork is classic police style. Why am I not surprised Danny would be in the alley? This character has always been street savvy, and more than a little wise in the ways of shady people. It probably helps that Carmine is from a family of law enforcement professionals.

Det. Lindsay Monroe (Anna Belknap) is still pregnant, but she looks about to pop. More than likely, she'll go on maternity leave later this season. Anna left a couple of seasons ago to have her first child, although Lindsay was baby free then. The relationship she has with Danny has been set aside for now.

Flack, too, is having relationship issues. One takes the form of his sister, Sam (Kathleen Munroe). An alcoholic, she and Flack are as opposite as night and day. Det. Jessica Angell (Emanuelle Vaugier), Flack's girlfriend, now knows their involvement is public ("Rush To Judgment") .

Since Gillian's niece is missing, I think Julia Ormond will be around for a bit. It won't be every week viewers will see her, but she should be back a time or two before the finale. Willie Bostic (Mykel Shannon Jenkins)might also. He's the club owner who helped Flack get more information on the case.
