TV Review CSI:NY "Sex, Lies, and Silicone"

Part of: CSI:NY

Being part of the crime lab investigation team puts one in a unique profession. More often than not, one is required to handle the death of someone as a result of another's intentional act. The reasons for the death may not always make sense. However, there does not need to be an answer. Even the courts don't always bother with 'why.' There just has to be enough evidence to assure a conviction. Of course, one never knows whether the jury will agree.

Dr. Sheldon Hawkes (Hill Harper), as a former medical examiner, understands this concept. Part of his job included testifying as to the cause and manner of death. When he became part of the forensic field team, things changed. Hawkes found cases are not always so clear cut.

For once, Gary Sinise's character took a smaller part in the investigation. He stepped back and let others take over. The change in character development was nice to see. Hill Harper showed his acting chops when Hawkes had to decide where his ethics stood after a corporate 'fixer,' Ann Steele (Amber Mead), was found dead.

Okay, Hawkes is not a cop. He will not be making any arrests, so he is held to a slightly different standard than say, Det. Don Flack (Eddie Cahill) or Det. Lindsay Monroe (Anna Belknap).  He was asked to remove a name from a flash drive file and thereby pay back the man who helped Hawkes get into medical school. It was a request that meant a lot to Greg Pullman (Andrew Walker), the man's son and an old friend of Hawkes.

I have to say, the writers were smart having Hawkes think about it. This was not a decision to be made lightly. After all, Med. school was a big deal. Financial considerations might have been the only things prohibiting the fact spouting doctor from establishing his career.
