Mac hears running footsteps and follows them. He finds a young boy hiding between two exhibits, clearly traumatized. Thinking the child might have been an eyewitness, Mac coaxes him out and takes him to the hospital.
From the inscription on the golf ball, Flack finds the driving range where the victim practiced his game. When asked if anyone had the initials F.O.B., the owner says no. However, he continues by saying the victim had promise at the game of Urban Golf.
This is an actual golf game, only it uses the streets of New York as the course. Since it's easy to get to the facility, and any number of objects can be used for the hole, there are many people who play.
The owner gives Danny and Flack a list of people with whom their victim regularly played. After they see that one man checked himself into rehab for alcoholism, they realize F.O.B. stands for "Friend of Bill". They set out to go and chat with their main suspect.
It turns out the victim and the killer were in the midst of a game, ten thousand dollars to be given to the winner. The victim started heckling his opponent and would not let up, so the man knocked the victim to the ground and sprayed foam insulation into the victim's mouth to shut him up. He did not intend for the victim to die.
These two make a great team! Since both Carmine and Eddie are New York natives, they are experts at understanding just what it takes to be part of the NYPD. In fact, Carmine has several family members who are cops. Slightly on the cocky side, they are straight arrows when it comes to getting the job done.
Mac discovers the boy is confusing what he saw in real life with what he saw in his favorite comic book. This leads Mac and Stella back to the crime scene, where they find candy wrappers at the location when Mac first saw the child. As he thinks back, he sees the child was trying to tell him chocolate plays a part in their investigation.

I suppose that the obvious answer to your question would be that Mac's wife was pregnant when she died. I'm not sure I'd like that - I watch the CSI shows to see something other than the obvious answer and for the most part I'm rewarded.

I'm not so sure the obvious answer is right either in this case. Mac did mention something last season which made me think a child had died, or just remembering happier times. Of course, we could both be wrong and Mac and wife never had children.
