TV Review CSI:NY "Jamalot"

What is the price of success? The answer depends on who you ask. For a certain female roller derby team, it is about maintaining an image. That concept is tarnished when one of the players dies during a game brawl.

As Mac (Gary Sinise) explains the rules of roller derby to Stella (Melina Kanakaredes), the brawl is what's known as a "jam", in which the opposing team had two minutes to go after the other. Unfortunately, the dead woman was a fast rising star. This points to one of her teammates.

Mac is left to question the ladies in their dressing room. One player promptly removes her shirt and tosses it at his feet. She then requests he help unzip her skirt. Yippee! The CSI:NY writers agree with me about how good looking Gary Sinise is. But I digress.. Lindsay stays behind to gather the clothing.

Across town, Danny (Carmine Giavanazzo) and Hawkes (Harper Hill) have a dead guy to detect. They figure he was probably smothered since he was found next to a rug. The ME will have to confirm it, but since Hawkes has a pathology degree, the autopsy is a formality.

Sure enough, they were right. When Hawkes finds out the results, he finds Danny, who is examining pictures taken at the crime scene. Writing was found all over the dead guy's body, with "The End" written on a baby toe. What does that mean? It was probably the final chapter of a book.

Danny goes to talk to the victim's editor, who appears to have no idea that one of her best writers is now deceased. Fans of Ferris Bueller's Day Off will recognize Mia Sara, who played Sloane, as the editor.

Victim #1 was essentially cooked from the inside out. She was taking a dietary supplement, DHP, which reacted to the stress inducing energy of being athletic. Lindsay is sent back to the locker rooms to obtain all beauty care products which could disguise the DHP. As it turns out, traces of DHP are found in the shampoo. Mac now has to take blood samples. Only one player, the rookie Birdie, does not have DHP in her system. Did Birdie do it? Mac and Stella go have a chat.

So who did it? The owner's wife. She says if the players had taken their free time activity like the business it was, she would not have taken action. Stella is not impressed and arrests her.

Victim #2 was killed by the editor's husband. Why? His wife was having an affair with her star pupil. The husband had hypergraphia, which is an overwhelming urge to write all the time. Discovering that his written work was being copied by victim #2 and sold as his own, victim #2 was smothered.
