In the city which never sleeps, Det. Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) prepares to go to a charity event put on by the deputy mayor. I have to say, Sinise looks downright handsome in a tux! He has somewhat of a permanent tan, which the classic black and white 'monkey suit' brings out well. Also in attendance is Det. Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes), with Brendon Walsh at her side. Considering Mr. Walsh is FDNY, the training helps after the party's host crashes to the floor from the overhead balcony.
Once again, politics is flowing through the main storyline. The police are getting paid late, so a good number call in sick as protest. Det. Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo) joins in, which has the crime lab short one investigator. Perhaps the purpose might have been better served if Giovinazzo was simply not part of the episode. The conversations between colleagues would have gotten the point across.
I did think Hill Harper got the frustration of Hawkes down pat. He is willing to put in the long hours if it means getting the bad guys put away. Yes, the paychecks are not coming when they would normally. So? They still have a job to do. Anna Belknap, aka Lindsay Monroe, reminded him his salary was not affected. Hawkes isn't a cop.
AJ Buckley kicked Adam Ross into high gear this week. He had the difficult task of seeing someone be held accountable for actions unthinkable. The disbelief on his face when he realized just who the killer was showed just how much he cared. The problem came from seeing something in a suspect which Adam knows only too well. Buckley has a good range of talent, and he stepped up when the job called for him to do what he had to in order to wrap it up. Too neat? This part of the story could run a little more, but it doesn't have to.

I like CSI NY and CSI, the first one. I could never get into CSI Miami. I don't like the lead guy.
