Hawkes is confused. Why now? He has testified thousands of times. However, he remembers a question a prosecutor asked, which the defense never questioned. As Hawkes so clearly puts it, the defense attorney was "asleep at the wheel". This reminds Mac of a specific clue. If, Hypnos is the God of Sleep, the cops have to find the attorney, and fast, before he becomes the next victim.
They do, only to find the man bound and gagged on his apartment floor. Making his escape is their killer, so Danny and Flack give chase, arresting him in a nearby alley. When they take him to the police station, he says all deserved what they got. Who is he? Shane Casey, the brother of the kid who hung himself. Danny understands closeness between siblings, although he doesn't mention Louie by name. But, Danny points out murder was not an appropriate channel for the man's anger.
Back at the precinct, Lindsay has a shocker to tell Mac and Stella — Casey escaped! Will he return for revenge on Det. Taylor and his team? Wait and watch....
This was fascinating on many levels. Not only was it something of a psychological thriller, there is at least another chapter to be read in this saga. Viewers were also treated to another window opening into the life of Sid Hammerback. Although he was married before, is he still? He already brought up his daughter in a prior episode ("Not What It Looks Like"). Robert Joy is a delight to watch, and I can't wait to see what's next!
