This was it, the night of nights. The end of a musical competion that pitted eight Non-Singing Celebrities (NSC) against one another in a race to find out who would reign as Champion of the television show Celebrity Duets. And don't forget the added incentive of $100,000 (USD) that would be awarded as a donation to the charity of the winner's choice.
You think that these five weeks have been easy for the contestants? Chris Jericho (television personality/radio host), Carly Patterson (Olympic Games Gold Metal Gymnast), Leah Thompson (actress), Jai Rodriguez (actor/Culture Vulture on Queer Eye For The Straight Guy), Lucy Lawless (actress), Alfonso Ribeiro (actor), Hal Sparks (actor/comedian), and Cheech Marin (actor/comedian). These celebrities were already famous in their own right, yet were willing to step outside of their regular lives to fulfill a dream; to be known for a previously unknown talent. Not in a singing-in-the-shower-or-car kind of way, but as a professional. Not only would they have to learn two to three songs and choreography each week, they would be paired up to perform with legendary singers of superstar status, some they themselves idolized.
At the start of this show, a montage of the trials and tribulations the competitors went through recapped the course of this series. It served as a reminder of all the hard work each of these Non-Professionals put into the challenge they had accepted. Weekly, someone would get booted off.
Five long weeks and it all boiled down to this one night. Out of the eight who started on the show, only three -- Lucy Lawless, Hal Sparks, and Alfonso Ribeiro -- remained. By the end of this finale, it would be all over; the last two would be shown the door and one would be left standing. Who would it be?
Emcee Wayne Brady, a noted comedian/singer/talk show host himself, warmly welcomed one and all. He's done a great job all season long. Joking and singing, overall he's been the kind of guy I felt I could hang around and goof with. He was definitely up for this final show as he encouraged the audience to make noise because, "This is it. This is the night that we all have been waiting for." The call-in votes from the previous show had been counted and soon it would revealed who America chose to be their champion.

Um, I was under the impression these celebrities COULD sing, it's just that it might not be the thing which popped into one's head. Lucy Lawless certainly could, Xena has several episodes where cast members sang.
BTW-it's gold medal winner.
