TV Review: Castle - "A Death in the Family" - Page 2

There is, of course, a logical suspect — Beckett's dad, who was also a cop. Does Castle tell her Dad did it? I have to assume this is one of the first things the police checked. Most people are killed by someone they know. Besides, he would be immediate next of kin for legal purposes.

Suspect number two is her ex-boyfriend Will Sorenson (Bailey Chase, Criminal Minds), who just happens to be an FBI agent. One's credibility is stretched a bit, for reasons stated above. Sorenson is probably the biggest long shot of the entire suspect list.

A pregnancy is also not out of the question. Then again, Beckett would know that herself. Castle has to return now, to clear the mystery up if nothing else.

Casting Picardo in the finale was a brilliant idea. It gives a nod to these two actors being known for popular science fiction series. Fillion once led Firefly as Captain Mal Reynolds, while Picardo played Richard Woolsey on two Stargate shows. Fans also know him from Star Trek:Voyager with Kate Mulgrew as the captain.

One special touch is another nod to a Fillion role. You have to watch for yourself to see it, but it's unmistakable.

Now, who would make a great guest star? Firefly has most of its former cast committed to other shows. Castle does, though, have another option. Susan Sullivan used to play a character on Falcon Crest. Robert Foxworthy would do well on this show. Roger Bart, who stepped into plenty of homes as the evil pharmacist on Desperate Housewives, is a good choice. Come to think of it, so is Nicolette Sheridan.

From what I can tell, chances are pretty high there will be a season two. It would be a smart choice since it is one of those shows which can lead people to watch more from ABC. Nathan Fillion is a good draw, since he's recognized easily and has a fan base already. The writing is sharp, stories are interesting, and this cast is a nice mix.

Kadi, "lowering" the ratings? When you watch online, that tells the powers who schedule television Castle is important to keep on the air.
