As they talk, Brad says that she is not going to sue or file for a restraining order, because she would alert Social Services by doing so. She points out that she is in treatment because she is a drug addict who wants to get better, and return to her life. There is no need for a temporary restraining order, so Brad is not going to be kept away.
Could this be the beginning of a new relationship? Brad certainly seems taken by her. He asks Paul what would happen to their relationship if he got sued by Rachel. Paul asks if he had one, and Brad says no. Time will tell...
Alan's closing argument does not quite work as well as it usually does. Melissa is found guilty, and must pay her taxes as well as a fine. The judge says she must spend a month in jail, but suspends it. Alan has to explain to her that she is not going to prison.
Later, she walks into his office and thanks Alan for his help. She suggests they celebrate over dinner. He says that she needs to pay her taxes, yet does not say anything to refuse dinner. She kisses him (on the lips, no less), and exits.
After Denise has a disastrous time with Shirley's nephew, she runs a red light and gets ticketed by a cop. She goes into work the next day and Shirley suggests that Denise and the cop had sex.
When she gets a call from the "cop," he has been arrested for impersonating a police officer. She defends him, but walks away after the judge imposes sentence. Note: never let a client do anything except plead. The man gives a lovely speech about the prevalence of rude behavior during the sentencing, but when he asked the judge to reconsider, the judge does. He throws in jail time and doubles the community service. Just before Denise and her client part company, he pulls Denise into a long kiss.

Great review! Someone may have already commented on this. Melissa was having credit card problems in the episode "Legal Deficits" (exorbitant interest rates, late fees, etc.)but I don't recall her being arrested or charged with burglary.

You must have tuned in late. In practically the opening scene, Alan had to bail Melissa out of jail for "trying to rob a bank" (her own words). Charges were later dropped when she apologized to those who ran the bank (Alan made her). But Jerry Espenson's work helped Alan "convince" the charge company lawyer to forgive all of Melissa's debt.

Love your reviews. I'm sort of reading them backwards. I didn't know you did them. Just a small correction. Melissa's full sentence is: "They’re saying I tried to rob a bank. I didn’t. I just smashed a window."
