TV Review Boston Legal "Legal Deficits"

There is a saying "No good deed goes unpunished". Brad Chase (Mark Valley) is finding that out the hard way. While his actions led to the rescue of a four year old boy, he has now been arrested on three felony counts.

Why? It seems that the assistant district attorney is gunning for a promotion not far down the road, and winning a high profile case would help in that regard. Also, he and Brad went to law school together, and Brad proved himself to be the better lawyer.

At the arraignment, Brad accepts responsibility for his actions and he pushes for an immediate trial. When Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen) asks why, Chase points out that it would be better to go to trial now when people still see him as a hero. Denise Bauer (Julie Bowen) agrees to testify.

Although Brad 's demeanor is usually ice cold calm, this turn of events throws him off balance. When Denise tells him, "It's okay to show emotion.", he assures her that he is prepared to accept the consequences of what he did. But, as soon as she exits, Brad exhales, trying to relieve his anxiety. Later, Melissa (Marisa Coughlan) asks him, "Are you okay?", as he waits on his verdict. He isn't, but he doesn't tell her that.

Alan Shore (James Spader) is not having a great day himself. Melissa, his new administrative assistant, is having legal troubles. After she smashed a window of a bank, she was arrested because the police thought she was trying to rob it. Alan had to get her out of jail.

Part of Melissa's problem has to do with accumulating debt. When the legal counsel of the credit card company (Christopher Rich) shows up for a deposition hearing, he finds out just how good an attorney Alan is. Melissa's debt is forgiven.
