Denise (Julie Bowen) asks for Brad Chase's (Mark Valley) help in locating an abducted child. She mentions that she has heard Chase knows people in the FBI. He does, but what convinces him to help her is that the first 48 hours are critical to finding children alive.
Mark Valley's acting credentials shine in this episode. From the get go, he was solid, taking Brad Chase to a new level. Perhaps the best part was when he and Denise pretended to be FBI agents in order to question the brother of the pedophile who kidnapped Denise's housekeeper's son. Denise's fluent Italian did not help them any closer locating to the boy when they questioned the brother. Brad got in a room alone with the brother, (he asked Denise to leave, and threw in "Please. Now.") and warned him that using interrogation tactics would be sanctioned since a 4-year old child was missing. It reminded me of Valley's soap work in Days of Our Lives and Pasadena. The circling around the table was a nice touch.
Brad has paramilitary training? Now, that's interesting. Denise tells him "Don't even think about it" when the real FBI goes to the house where the pedophile and boy are located. The reason? Brad and Denise would have beaten the feds to the scene. But, he stands back with her when the raid goes down and lets the government agency do what it does best.
When the boy is rescued alive, Denise silently cries. She gets so overwhelmed that she buries her head in Brad's shoulder. He's taken aback, but wraps an arm around her anyway and pulls her close. He then walks her away from the scene. Awww!! Nice to see Brad cares. And lucky Julie Bowen. Mark Valley is drop-dead gorgeous. I wouldn't mind crying on his shoulder myself. But I digress...
Meanwhile, Alan (James Spader) and Denny (William Shatner) are at odds again. The first time was over a soldier's death in "Witches of Mass Destruction". Now, it is over a homeless man. It seems that Denny has shot one. Granted, it was only a paintball gun, but still. Why? The man asked for money after Shore and Crane came down to the sidewalk when they exited the train. They were not paying attention, so the man threw a rock which hit Denny in the head.
