Kristy Lee Cook - "Forever"
Two weeks in a row, Kristy Lee Cook wasn't horrible. In fact, she was better than that. I actually think her performance was stronger than any of the other females, which kind of blows my mind. I'm still not a Kristy fan - but at least I'm not mad she's there anymore. Well, hardly mad, and then only when I think about her version of "Eight Days A Week." Randy said, "You've definitely started stepping up at the end." Paula said, "You're a very smart girl because you have it all planned out." Simon said, "It just wasn't great."
David Cook - "Always Be My Baby"
David C. is back! This arrangement was awesome and David's performance was truly stellar. I really can see him as a star already. His was the best performance of the night, by far - and that's saying a lot when David Archuleta also had a great night. I am totally rooting for David Cook to make it to the final two. Randy said, "I thought that was the most brilliant performance yet." Paula said, "That song could be a movie soundtrack." Simon said, "That was original, daring, stood out by a mile, and this is the sign of a great potential artist."
Jason Castro - "I Don't Wanna Cry"
Jason's performance rounds out the top three for me. It was pure Jason, and it was really nice - I definitely enjoyed it. I liked that he was brave enough to put a different spin on a song that everyone knows. Additionally, his voice is so clear and mellow that it was perfect for this arrangement. Randy said, "I didn't really love it. I thought I was at a weird beach luau." Paula said, "It's lovely to hear you." Simon said, "I am going to agree with Paula. The guys completely won the night."
So, that wraps up the top seven show. As normal, my ranking from the week is below - but tell me what YOU think. Who do you think will be the next person to leave American Idol?
Here's my personal ranking for the week:
- David Cook
- David Archuleta
- Jason Castro
- Kristy Lee Cook
- Brooke White
- Syesha Mercado
- Carly Smithson

David Cook is so miles ahead of everybody else it's not even funny. David Archuleta has always seemed pretty bland to me from the get-go, but I'm not a teenage girl so I guess I don't get that type of thing. He's a decent singer at best and is void of personality or intrigue, making him ideal for the High School Musical-type pop scene. He'll win the competition, but he shouldn't.

It was really hard for me to get excited about this week's AI knowing that Michael Johns was gone. I didn't think he would finish out on top, but I certainly believe there are at least two that should have gone before him.
I think you've ordered them pretty close to right, Tracy. I think the guys had the advantage of not being automatically compared to Mariah, but even beyond that, they made awesome song choices.
Jordan -- I don't think David A. is the shoe-in you do. At this point, I think it's David Cook's competition to loose. If he doesn't finish out on top it will be because of a huge mis-step he takes between now and then.

Eh, I'd like to be that optimistic and think it's about talent. But then I remember that it's about the votes and talent isn't always the first thing on people's minds. Sometimes it's hard to tell (Taylor Hicks) and other times it's more obvious (Jordin Sparks).
