TV Review: American Idol - Top Nine Results

Part of: American Idol Season Seven

The American Idol top nine results show began a minute or so early on my end of the world - the contestants were already almost halfway through their group song, "9 to 5," at the time the show was supposed to begin. Did this happen to anyone else?

From there we moved on to a promo. Each week, we've been seeing one of these promo pieces for this season's Idol Gives Back (an event which began last season), and tonight was no exception.

Airing on Wednesday, April 9, this year's Idol Gives Back promises to be just as heart-tugging, emotional, and sensational as last year's. Portions of the program will be taped this Sunday and will be played during the live telecast on Wednesday. With a list of star performers, including Heart, Billy Crystal, Brad Pitt, Maroon 5, and many, many more, it will definitely be on my watch list. One thing that will be different this year is that the results show next week will be separate from the benefit; it will air on Thursday, April 10. Wednesday is all Idol Gives Back, which means that someone will still go home next week - unlike last year (when they were combined but no one was sent packing).

But, back to this week's results show. The Clark Brothers, winners of The Next Great American Band, performed "Let It Shine." Even more exciting (for me, anyway) is that Dolly Parton performed her song "Jesus and Gravity" live on the AI stage. She is so wonderful to watch. I think I smiled the entire time she sang.

Of course, we had the requisite Ford group commercial. Oh - and the now normal questions from viewers who call in. I'm not really getting this Q&A portion of the results show every week. I mean, I think it falls flat. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather watch another group performance. Does anyone out there really enjoy these questions and answer sessions?

    Tracy,

Nice write-up and your observations regarding Ramiele were on target. She's beaten the odds for more than enough weeks and it finally caught up with her. I think Brooke, Kristy, Sayesha, and Jason are next but not necessarily in that order. All are talented but not at an Idol winner level. The four after that are a toss up in my mind. I think David Cook or Michael Johns may follow the Chris Daughtry route and leave around third or fourthh and do better than the winner in the recording business. That leaves Carly Smithson and David Archuleta. Both are very talented and will probably be in the top two but I'm not sure what their niche will be.

Since I was a faithful fan of The Next Greatest American Band show I was a little disappointed that the Clark Brothers played that insane rendition of "Let It Shine". It was like they were attempting to strum their instruments to death. They sang some very moving ballads during the band competition that would have been better suited for an Idol performance.

    Grandpa Idol is back!!

Welcome back Grampa! Good to hear you are on the same page as me. I definately agree that Ramiele had overstayed her welcome. It was her time to go. You are also correct in the next batch to go although I would say it is going to be Kristy, Sayesha, Jason then Brook (although Jason's female voters may keep him a little longer and send Brook packing first)
Although Simon likes both Brook and Jason, they are both going.
My vote for the top "dawg" would be that sweet faced David Archuletta. He is so humble and sweet.
I did not care for the Clark Bro's song at all but really enjoyed Dolly.
Well, until next week, this is Sizzlin Sandi signing out.....
