TV Review: American Idol - Top Five Results

Part of: American Idol Season Seven

The American Idol top five results show began with a medley. While it was entertaining, it wasn't the most memorable of all medleys ever done on AI, but at least it looked as if the contestants had fun with it. Then, a quick interview with Gina and Constantine (past contestants) about their American Idol Extra show, and how they would be interviewing whoever was sent home that night.

Ryan introduced the judges and then a recap of Tuesday night's performances ran. I always enjoy the quick recap, because it helps me remember who did what and how they did. Sometimes, the recap might change my mind about my ranking - but this week, I felt fairly sure about my choices.

The first contestant called to the stage was Jason Castro. I was expecting him to be in the lower two, but Ryan told him he was safe. I wasn't upset by this - I still like Jason Castro a lot. David Archuleta came out next, and he too was safe - but no big surprise there! Afterward, AI showed a preview of So You Think You Can Dance with none other than Nigel Lythogoe as a judge.

Ryan brought David Cook to stage then, and yep - he was safe too. This meant it was Syesha Mercado and Brooke White in the bottom two. I really believed it would be Brooke's time to go home, but I wasn't going to be surprised if it was Syesha either. Even though Syesha has been really great these past several weeks, it's seemed that Brooke's fans were strong and committed.

Before we got to find out for sure though, Natasha Bettingfield performed. After she sang, she went to the contestant couch and wrapped her arms around David A. He seemed a little embarrassed. And, of course, the random fan calls had to happen, and they came next. The only really interesting question was the one posed by the first woman Simon ever kissed - when he was nine! She asked whose kiss was more memorable - hers or Paula's. Simon never answered.

Finally, it was time to see who was going home. It was Brooke White's last time on the Idol stage as an AI contestant. I was really sorry to see her go, and her tears almost made me cry. She's genuine and I think she'll have a nice career.

That wraps up the top five results show! Next week - my guess is it will be either Syesha or Jason. What do you think?
