TV Review: American Idol - Top Eleven Results

Part of: American Idol Season Seven

While the biggest question of the night was, naturally, which contestant was leaving American Idol; several other questions were answered first. To begin with, Ryan announced the list of celebrity mentors for the seventh season of American Idol. They are: Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Neil Diamond. Then, the Top Eleven did their normal group singing thing. This week wasn't nearly as Brady Bunch-like, I'm happy to say.

Also covered in this scintillating episode was the all-important viewer question of "would you ever consider filming a sequel to the kiss scene?" delivered to none other than Paula and Simon. Simon's answer was "Yes," with the explanation that Paula is a "very good kisser." Unfortunately for Paula, she didn't have time to answer the question herself. Not fair! I'd have liked to hear her rebuttal.

Other fun moments of the evening include season five contestant Kellie Pickler singing her song, "Red High Heels." She looked really good! Last time I saw her on AI, she had a horrible puffy hairstyle. Thankfully, she seems to have found a better hair stylist since then. I enjoyed seeing her perform much more than I ever did when she was a contestant, and her personality is still just "too cute for words."

A little behind the scenes peek showed us the making of the newest Ford promo video. David Cook had the megaphone, but Jason Castro had the flying saucer. All were dressed in fifties-style clothing while singing "Should I Stay or Should I Go." Yep. More cuteness and Idol-ish antics played out as they ran the actual video.

As the bottom three were announced one by one, I was a little taken aback. Carly Smithson in the bottom three? Her performance was way, way, way, way, WAY better than that. I'm a little stunned. I really am not ready to see Carly leave.

Yeah... I'm still in shock. Amanda Overmyer? I figured her time was coming soon, but I never thought it would be before Kristy Cook.

Er... okay, I was really hoping it wouldn't be before Kristy Cook.

I was as shocked as you that Carly joined these two in the bottom three. What an odd result!
