TV Review: American Idol - The Week that Never Happened

Is it possible for me to make an entire week disappear? Is this what happens when these people are left to their own devices? Everyone is relieved that Bucky is still around this week, because he is obviously the next one to go home.

Here is a rundown of the catastrophe that was last night on American Idol.

Lisa Tucker started the show off with veritable flat-fest. She butchered Kelly Clarkson's hit song. Kelly Clarkson may be a manufactured girl from the show, but she has some seriously amazing range and ability. Should have stayed away, Lisa.

Ace Young overstepped his bounds too. You may not like Train, but Pat Monahan will blow away most lead singers in America with his singing ability. And another thing - the judges praised him for working the camera early on in this competition, but his longing stare into the camera after performances is becoming something of a parody. I expect it to hit SNL any day now. Stop it.

Mandisa tried to take us to church, but I have been saying the same thing since I was about 12 years old. "I don't want to go to church and you can't make me." Simon called it indulgent. For those of you who want to know exactly what he means, he is saying that not only was she singing something out of church, but it isn't even that well-known a song. Even if people wanted to get it, if they haven't heard the song before, it is considerably more difficult.

Chris Daughtry talked about last week's performance of Live's version of Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line" and then destroyed any goodwill he might have garnered by performing a spot-on version of Creed. If I can say one thing in support, it is that "What If" (inexplicably) was a huge hit. It is fairly recognizable, but at the same time, he really tested the world with a screamy type of song. He should have done something by Staind or maybe rocked up a song that doesn't rock already.

Katharine McPhee did something by Christina Aguilera. Everyone seemed to think it was okay, but it is a song that I don't know. It is really hard for me to figure out whether they are doing a good job or not if I don't know the song. This is why they need to pick better songs. If she does "Beautiful," then I can say without a doubt whether she is good or not because that song was everywhere when it was out.

Paris, I thought, was the best of the night. Bucky and Lisa were no worse than they've been every night this season, but I think Lisa is canned.

What in the HELL was Katharine McPhee wearing?

I am shocked you didn't rip into Ace for that pathetic move where he showed off his scar when he was singing a line about a scar.

Lisa needs to go, and I expect a bottom 3 of Lisa, Bucky, and Ace.

Although I am wishing for a bottom 3 of Lisa, Paris, and Mandisa.

I can't stand that trio, Lisa stinks, Paris is annoying as hell and hideously ugly and can get a break without AI, and Mandisa was in fact being quite indulgent by picking a song her fans can't relate to one bit.

I am blocking out the whole scar thing. I can't possibly acknowledge the fact that it happened at all. Can't do it. My head might explode.

"Honky Tonk Badonkadonk"? dang, that's too funny.

Mr. Lyndall, I have to ask: Do you know many songs? And you categorize one song as being better than another only because is considered to be better" if you know that song? Interesting. FWIW, I think "What If" (McPhee's rendition is the only one I have heard of it) is a much better song than "Beautiful" was.

My best of the night: Taylor

My biggest joy of the night: Chris criticized after doing yet another unoriginal (though good) modern-rock performance

    Bottom 3: Lisa, Bucky, Ace

Who'll go: Ought to be Bucky, but I think it will be Lisa, which works for me

On Mandisa: I thought she did a great job with a great song. Indulgent, yes, but she was doing evangelization, and what is more indulgent than that? But anyone who knows the song (and it's more well-known than some of you may think), that's how it's sung. She didn't oversing - unless Mary Mary did in the original.

I hope Lisa goes. I want to see a couple more weeks of Bucky. Chris can go too. One more week of those flashing white lights and I just might stab my eyes out.

what did ace sing last night?

Last night performance was somewhat disappointing. The contestants should have sang as though their lives was on the line. This is what I think: Lisa or Bucky will go. Lisa is still to young to master her voice, and Bucky, Bucky. I feel Katharine, Mandisa, Taylor and Elliott have a chance to make it to the end. Chris, Kellie and Paris, well it's up in the air.

I can relate to the internal rage at titles like, "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk".

Yes, it truly was a dismal week in Idol history but it still showed who can sing and who cannot. Although I was sorry to see Lisa depart but I guess it was only a matter of time for her just like it will be for Bucky. Even his best effort sounded like a classic karaoke performance. As far as Katherine is concerned, she has an incredible voice but a questionable personality. If she can be more emotionally believable she will stay out of the bottom.

The song Taylor sang is actually one of my fave songs. I love Ray LaMontagne.

As for Ace... I think he's smarmy. His "seductive stares" creep me out and remind me more of the stalker kid that wouldn't stop staring in class. I don't think he can sing either. He was decent in the auditions, but I think he needs to go!

I couldn't have been happier when Ace was one of the bottom three. I still don't understand how Bucky stayed out of there. Then again, I am one of those people who talks about the show and yet, I have never dialed a phone to vote for anyone.

I thought Elliott was very good and showed he can be diverse, which is important. He especially nailed the chorus. I hope this was the week where he gained some steam, because I don't want him to leave quite yet.

Bucky gets votes because Kellie and Taylor fans probably pity him, as the judges are constantly trashing him. And he isn't as bad as the judges make him out to be.

The worst of the night was Ace, and he should have gone home.

Ohhhhh, the term "beside myself" doesn't even cover my ecstasy and joy when I saw that not only was Katherine in the bottom THREE … she was in the BOTTOM TWO!!! With that being said, I will reiterate AGAIN my opinion of lovely Katherine, lest I be called MEAN or VENOMOUS! Yes, the girl can sing, and quite well. But this little field trip to the "bottom two" should shake that girl up a little. Will it be enough to fill her with a little GENUINE humility? Don't know … (going to last night RYAN says "Katherine, how do you feel?" and little miss arrogant says… "Gee, I've never been in this position before …") Yeah, she had to remind the American Public that she had never experienced even the smallest amount of dislike! "America loves me, don't they?"

Oh, I'm just making myself crazy thinking about it. Needless to say, Lisa should have gone last night, and hopefully Ace will go next week. Yes, … I'll even pick BUCKY over Ace! But after that, all bets are off. Katherine better learn to get that smug look off her face, or she's going to be viewing her good-bye video with America soon! (on a side note, can you imagine Katherine having to appear as one of the bottom 5 or 6 in the A.I. tour this summer? I don't think her ego would let her!)
