Taylor Hicks is just a memory in what was yet another bad American Idol closer. When Taylor and Katherine sang "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," I felt like I was listening to someone scratch nails on a chalkboard. I was totally disappointed, but more than that, I don't even care who won American Idol this season because last night was all about PRINCE!!
It was a total shock because I had read reports that Prince was going to be on American Idol, but then other reports said that he didn't want to interact with the contestants. So when I heard the music, I was like "it can't be Prince on Idol." Then the doors slid open and out walked Prince doing "Lolita" before moving right into "Satisfied," cuts off his new album 3121. Prince gave a killer performance and I loved the two girls who performed with him: they where hot, sexy, and spicy.
Katherine McPhee and Taylor Kicks will never ever be on the level that Prince is. Even at his age, 47, he looks not a day over 30; he can still dance his ass off and give a performance that everyone will be talking about. Taylor Hicks really got on my nerves; and the song he sang at the end of the show was horrible. I don't know if he was just overwhelmed with joy, or pissed knowing that his album will soon be in the $2 CD bin. But whatever, he was totally out of tune when signing "Do I Make You Proud."
No Talyor, you don't. You make me think that America is on that Whitney Houston diet and totally out of their minds.

GG/Mike: I stayed away from last night's episode (the way I have basically avoided the whole AI series but I would have made an exception to see Prince. Talk about putting the wannabes in their place. I wish I would have seen that.

I completely agree - it was quite a shock to see Prince on Idol - and I had no intentions on watching Idol last night, so that was a big surprise - and made me glad that I actually sat thru that horrible show... just to see Prince!
I still cannot believe that Taylor won... he was WAY off key on that last song, as well as other songs I heard him sing... horrible.

Last nights show just proved why Chris should have one. When he gave his performances he outshined everyone. This was by far the worst season of AI ever.

It was a big surprize to see Prince but I thought he was horrible and boring. Radio play time and record sales will back me up that Purple Rain was a long long time ago. I think the best performer on stage was Chris who should have been the real winner. Even though Hicks is very easy to like he is a lounge singer at best. Chris is way above the rest.

I agree that Chris should have won. However, I think everyone is being a little overboard about Taylor winning. Let's see, we have Taylor, who has a unique style that he stayed true to throughout the competition and the on stage experience with his own amateur band. then we have Kat who with all her "years of voice training" could not succeed in getting all the lines in the songs half the time. Great stage presence, good voice, NO REAL EXPERIENCE and could not hold it together under pressure. The only reason I see that she chose the songs she did for the final performances before the world voted for a winner was because she was sure she knew all the lines. They were a safety net. If it had to come down to the two of them then Taylor was the most reasonable winner. I am happy with the decision!
As far as watching this show goes...why not? Maybe you rather watch those stupid survivor shows or Unanymous or Mole or one of those stupid shows that are all about torturing people rather than something that gives people a way to live their dreams at doing something they are good at. Or maybe you do not like the idea of putting people out there that WON'T be a bad influence on our kids. THAT is another reason I am happy with Taylor's win. Sexy, show off Kat or down to earth, respectful, respectable Taylor>>> Which would you want your kids to go to see in concert? Which would you allow your kids to listen too or their videos to see? I think this was the BEST season ever for AI. I still think it should have been Chris but it DOES NOT MATTER. He is already in contract talks and the top 12 GET CONTRACTS so he's gonna be out there anyway! So realistically all you need to do is be among the top 12! Number one just gets a BIGGER contract, that is all.

Reasonable? If I was a PR person for music I'd DIE trying to market that guy to the people that buy music. He is so off the curve and what can he sell? You have to be more then a singer you have to be a product. What of Taylor Hicks would I want to buy? NOTHING

I don't think anyone sang worth a crap on that show EXCEPT Prince and maybe Clay... Mary J Blige sucked, I could barely listen to her screech, the dude she was singing with looked embarrassed!! All the other "stars" were equally as bad!!!

I cannot beleve that americans are that deaf and enjoy watching Taylor Hicks----------I used to like American Idol----now what is Paula on- and Randy you need to clean your ears-- For Chris Rocked and Kat is marketable and can be groomed -but Taylor will be a one time not an idol like Kelly and Carrie!

It always amazes me when I hear people rip Idol. Obviously it is successful. Obviously the mainstream music scene has embraced it or you wouldn't have seen Prince, Toni Braxton, and Mary J. Blige appear on it. Just as obviously Taylor is still an amatuer, without the luxary of having songs composed for his range and style and the backing of a studio full of technology (though that will soon change). And obviously Kelly Clarkson proves that idols can go on to success. I just don't understand why people think it's cool to rip it all of the time.

A few years ago a country singer friend and I used to go to Sam's Town here in Vegas for Karaoke every week. When Idol began this season we instantly recognized Taylor Hicks from the Karoake nights as he used to sing there as well. We enjoyed his unique performances then as much as now. It felt like watching an old friend win the brass ring he struggled to grab. Way to go Taylor!

America got it right last night. Taylor has been fabulous all season. He might have been a little pitchy towards the end, but consider the excitement and what was at stake... Katherine was the same way. Can anyone really blame them? The difference between Taylor and EVERY other contestant this year is the fact that he actually lives and breathes music. It's in his heart and soul. He deserved to win and I truly believe he'll do America proud!

Yeah, Alabama for producing a great singer and a real personality in Taylor Hicks. I am soooooo glad the little "KAT" didn't win. She really tries to be a sexy thing but her hips are too big and gawlky and she tries to dance too much during her performances. BIG TURNOFF!!!!! I know most dads are proud of their children, but come on, all those tears. Mothers are the ones that usually cry. Dad made a spectacle of himself. Wonder why they didn't show his face when she LOST????? Hooray Taylor. You make me proud to be from Alabama.

Taylor was the best vocalist that has been on Idol. Certainly much better than the talentless Fantasia of two years ago.
This year, the choice was off-key Kathleen or whatever her name was and one trick pony Chris. Yes, Taylor might not have the image that you think an "Idol" should have, but as a singer, no one on the show could top him. Fact is, no singer who has been on the show has ever been better than the average Holiday Inn lounge act, and some (Fantasia, Aiken, Guarini, for example) were much worse.

American Idol is a SCAM! They praised Kat for weeks and made her think she could not do anything wrong. They praised Chris the same way and when it started coming down to the end and producers saw who they wanted to win they must have told the judges to start weeding out people. Why have judges if we really get to vote. Why not let us decide for ourselved. Ever notice how everything Simon says always happens. If we had been able to choose for ourselves then who knows who would have won. I am sure it would not have been Taylor who looks like a 50 year old man. I consider AI to be something that would produce people like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Young, talented, STARS. AI has made a BAD CHOICE on a winner who will not provide them with the sales they are looking for. This is my last time watching this show. No More IDOL for me!

Ummmmm...let's see. First off, Prince was as HOT last night as he is with every preformance! He was by far the best thing that could have happened to the show, I could have wacthed him for the entire hour! I wasn't particularly excited about Kat or Taylor being the last two standing, but I'm glad Taylor won outta the two of them. I think Taylor will do the title justice once he finds the music perfect for his voice. Could it be that he's the Micheal McDonald of our generation?

I think America picked the perfect idol to represent us. An overweight, gray haired old man trying to be in his early 20's. He looked ridiculous up there with all the other male contestants. I think Paula should wear a bib when she looks at him. She made a fool of herself. Kat was the better singer by far. She at least is marketable and has talent. She didn't have to rely on spasmic dancing to win.

Wow, this win has reassured me that American Idol is NOT a scam. Taylor Hicks will be a nightmare to market, especially to the younger generation. Who would have made the most money for Simon? Probably Chris. All in all, it's refreshing to see someone who doesnt fit into everyone's perception of what's "popular" win. "On key" is subjective. Most people don't even realize that "on key" is the biggest scam of human history, something of the order of mass brain-washing. Western diatonic scale is not the end all be all of all musical scaling. Some people should stop being critical of his musical aptitude when they're just saying that Taylor doesnt fit into their perception of the musical "norm".
Taylor Hicks who can sing Stevie Wonder songs in his own style, gets my vote as the best musical talent on AI this year.
