TV Review: American Idol 6, Episode 11 - The Top 12 Girls

Part of: American Idol 6

The ladies had their turn in the spotlight as they took the stage on American Idol. As predicted by some people, they overall did better than the guys on Tuesday night. Perhaps they learned something from the guys' performances and the judges' remarks, or perhaps they're just better. Regardless, some of the ladies were downright amazing.

Simon and Ryan seemed to have reconciled after their little tiff on Tuesday, but there was still some mild bantering at the start of the show. I swear someone should just arm them with swords, toss them in the middle of an arena, and have them battle it out. I'd pay money to see that.

I shall be grouping the ladies under "Good," "Better," and "Best" because that's how much better they were than the guys. Granted, there were a few unmemorable performances but overall the ladies shone bright last night.

Good

Amy Krebs: Unfortunately, Amy is one of those people who I have trouble remembering. She just doesn't stand out in voice, looks, or personality. She has a nice tone to her voice, but it was boring, and for the life of me I can't even remember what she sang.

Antonella Barba: So far the most well-known season six contestant, especially due to some racy pictures that recently popped up online, Antonella does an okay version of Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing". However, the judges didn't care for it. Simon said that the song was so big for her that it swallowed her up and he doesn't think she'll be back next week.

Nicole Tranquillo: Like Amy, Nicole is one of those forgettable singers with very little personality. She's not bad and has a strong voice, but she didn't really stand out in my opinion.

Haley Scarnato: How unimaginative do you have to be to a) sing a Celine Dion song, and b) sing the same song that you did during the Hollywood rounds? Haley's a very good singer with a strong voice, but she's gotta do better than this if she wants people to remember her.

Alaina Alexander: Alaina is very cute, pretty, and has a great voice, but like Haley before her, Alaina's performance wasn't memorable. As the judges said, she didn't make the song her own.

Better

Leslie Hunt: I don't think Leslie's initial audition was aired, so the audience's unfamiliarity with her may hurt her a bit. However, I thought that she showed some personality and spunk in her performance, in spite of Randy thinking that the song was too big for her. She won't make the Top 12, but she'll be back next week.

“My mother prophesied years ago that my voice would take me places. She was certain that there was a reason I was able to sing. I am still discovering what that reason is, what it is that God wants to ...

"Lakisha Jones: Wow, talk about ending the evening with a bang!"

I thought she ended the night with a SCREAM, considering she just yells.

She only sings one type of songs. Hopefully they will have a country theme that will knock out this Frenchie/Mandisa clone.

I know that Fantasia solidified herself during country week by blackifying "Summertime" (which is not real country anyways), but hopefully LaKisha will try some mainstream country and fall flat on her face.

It's not that I hate her personally or racially, I just am tired of hearing fat black men and women sing. They are so overrated and I can't stand that type of music.

Remember last season during the auditions there was a black lady who sounded like the next coming of Shania Twain? We need her and more like her back, and I don't even like country music.

I too want to see LaKisha sing out of her element. If see can pull off a rock song, she would definitely be the frontrunner.

But all we know now is that she can do Aretha and Whitney.

    YAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you totally forgot about Stephanie Edwards (who deserves to be in the best category, btw).

You did forget Stephanie Edwards, but she WAS the first to perform, and that is never an advantage in American Idol, particularly if you give a suck-tastic performance. You are usually forgotten, unless you are a truly memorable contestant, but Stephanie hasn't had enough Idol footage to make her one....yet.
However, Stephanie at least deserves to be in the "Better" category. Sometimes she was a bit pitchy, yes, but she beats any of the dudes so far (except maybe Blake and Chris. S, who I believe may provide competiton to the girls next week in terms of singing).

P.S.: Sundance's chances of leaving this week due to V.F.T.W.: 0.00000001%. Thanks a lot, guys.

Erm and Thank God- Yes, you both are totally right. I forgot about Stephanie Edwards. Thank you very much for pointing it out. I even took notes about everyone as I was watching last night. Apologies to Stephanie. I'll include her in my review and ask the editors to apply the changes.
