Nina's power doesn't work on everybody. Gary is immune from her. Yes, he's a little extreme, but he's also autistic. Rachel tunes in one sense and tunes out the others. Nothing wrong with her hearing.

Of course your right on those. As far as Gary, I specifically didn't use the word "autistic" since I do not believe that's been stated (I could be wrong) on screen and I felt it inappropriate to claim that, although it's fairly clear that he has some form of autism.

I also never said there was anything wrong with her hearing, just that she can't hear when she's in her zone.

It's a good show, and I'm very excited to see David Strathairn starring in a tv show!

I was not thrilled with the Alphas TV show, quite mediocre and boring. I thought the cast of characters did not blend well and they were annoying. The tv shows Heroes, Santuary and Torchwood was superior in imagination and writing. I would rather see the new tv show Three Inches, there cast are a excellent match. I also would like for the three Inches show to be the originally planned 1 hour show. I read it would be reduced to a 1/2 hour show, which is a big mistake. Haven't heard when the Three Inches tv show will be viewed. Maybe they should bring Joss Whedon back to write tv shows. There's a guy talented guy who has imagination and originality.

I agree that the pilot was rather beige and by the numbers (after being a touch spoiled by recently watching the much more evocative British 'Misfits' series). Needless to say, the second episode was a notable improvement, ratcheting up the sense of menace, offering more evocative cinematography and dropping Strathairn's beard. They are still bad at pretending they aren't in Toronto, though.

AA--I agree that episode 2 was much better. And losing DS's beard was crucial.

As the mother of an autistic child, I fell in love with this show. The actor playing Gary does a wonderful job portraying an autistic person, the benefits, such as the walking encyclopedia to the annoying qualities such as always paying extreme detail to rules and details. I love it, an autistic in a hero's role is a very good thing for the Autism Community.
