The scene is very central to the show because it provides a glimpse of Jane trying to obtain facts which explain the unfortunate happenstances surrounding her on a frequent basis. If she is successful in finding out the significance of the spiral staircase, she can get closure for these events and perhaps return to a normal life at The Drake.
ABC has decided to cancel 666 Park Avenue after this season ends. The show presentation might be more successful on HBO or perhaps as a full length movie named "The Drake".
