TV Review: 666 Park Avenue January 6, 2013 "The Comfort of Death"

Part of: Sci-Fi Primetime

The ABC series 666 Park Avenue will soon be coming to an end. There are four more shows planned in January, beginning with "Comfort of Death" airing January 6. The title is appropriate because Sasha's return to Olivia (Vanessa Williams) and Gavin (Terry O'Quinn) poses monumental problems for both. Sasha has been missing for years without even the courtesy of a phone call to either parent. Until the return of Sasha, Olivia had closure albeit a painful one.

Now the parents have the dilemma of Sasha's return with all the accompanying public embarrassment which her reappearance entails. The writers of the show must find a way to get closure for Sasha and her parents under the time pressure of a few short weeks before the show ends.

The status of Henry's (David Annable) political career is up in the air. How will he decide? An affirmative decision would bring Jane (Rachel Taylor) into the confrontational dynamics of a rigorous campaign with all the suspenseful trimmings. In addition, neither Jane nor Henry appear to be comfortable as political junkies. Essentially, both are highly private people who shun the spotlight in favor of personal privacy and intimacy.

A related issue is for Jane to get closure for her unwelcome visions of the little girl at The Drake, as well as the persona of Peter Kramer chasing his wife around with a knife. For this task, Jane has selected Maris Elder (Whoopi Goldberg) to obtain wise advice and counsel. Maris is thoroughly versed in the history of The Drake, as well as many of its most privately held secrets.

It's really too early in the history of the show for the audience to get a real contrast between good and evil, as suggested in the name of the show 666 Park Avenue. Even at his worst, Gavin must be seen as a greedy businessman and not an evil one. His conduct to date, although undesirable, could hardly be labeled evil in the truest sense of the word.

Has the author watched the show? Gavin Doran is clearly evil - there are many examples of it in the episodes. How could that be overlooked in this article?
Also a show that is quickly cancelled due to poor ratings will never see a movie made from it. This is NOT Firefly which had an avid following and a name director.
