TV Review: 666 Park Avenue "Downward Spiral"

Part of: Sci-Fi Primetime

This week's 666 Park Avenue show is entitled "Downward Spiral." The title of the show describes accurately the journey Jane is about to make by the end of this week's episode. The show opens with Henry (David Annable) being honored at City Hall.

Henry's political career continues to rise when the mayor presents him with a Bronze Medal for bravery and courage for stopping a mass murderer at The Drake. Gavin needles Henry by calling him Mayor Martin, an apparent reference to his potential for a political career.

Up until now, Henry continues to resist the suggestions that he pursue the mayoralty. After all, he realizes that the driving force to pursue the mayoralty is external to him. This is not a goal that Henry has internalized voluntarily through deep reflection, prior planning, goal setting and a firm personal commitment to public service at the present time.

Henry's exuberance is tempered by Jane's (Rachel Taylor) insistence upon leaving The Drake, where she feels unsafe and ill at ease. This scene only reinforces Henry's dilemma. He must deal with the public accolades, as well as Jane's constant reminders that she would like to go back to Indiana.

Jane expresses her wish to go back to Indiana to Olivia (Vanessa Williams) who suggests that she stay in the place where opportunity beckons. In addition, Jane delivers a resignation letter to the front desk where it is accepted with reluctance.

Henry discusses Jane's depression with Gavin (Terry O'Quinn). Surprisingly, Gavin's idea of a cure for Jane's depression is to marry Henry. Gavin reinforces Olivia's advice to Jane which is to stay at The Drake where there are opportunities for Henry and her right now.

Henry is inclined to take Gavin's marriage advice and goes with Olivia to search for an engagement ring. Both Henry and Olivia settle upon a few good choices for diamond rings displayed at a local jewelry store.
