He offers Shaw the opportunity to walk away now unscathed or risk losing everything in a continuing struggle for possession of The Drake. Clearly, these two men each other intensely. The audience will be interested to know how this continuing struggle is resolved.
Until now, Gavin has been the governing force at The Drake. Shaw presents a strong and aggressive counterbalancing force to Gavin by challenging his exclusive status at home with his wife, as well as at The Drake. For sure, a huge fight is in the making.
The outcome of this fight could have major implications for both Henry and Jane at The Drake because Shaw does not seem to be a very sympathetic person. So far, he's cold, calculating and highly manipulative.
Somehow, Shaw has secured a rare redwood chest which has significant value to Gavin. He seeks to parley this chest in exchange for control of The Drake. It's not really clear whether or not Shaw acts alone or at the behest of other people who may be enemies of Gavin.

One of them must prevail in the ultimate scheme of things. In addition, there is a continuing drama surrounding Jane and her inability to cope with the overall situation at The Drake, as well as the demands placed upon Henry to run for the mayoralty.
