TV Review: 24 Season Six - Hour 16: Another "Didn't See this Coming" Episode

Part of: Bauer Power

Wayne is up – or he wants to be up. He’s dressed and asking for a shot of adrenaline. Though it won’t be good for his blood pressure, he thinks the benefit outweighs the risks.

Bill fills Jack in about Daniels’ intention of invoking the 25th Amendment. Jack notes that if amnesty is granted to Gredenko, it would become void if Palmer is removed from office, although Jack stated that he had no intentions of honoring any amnesty offer from the White House. In other words it’s all for show. Of course!

Wayne shakily walks into the situation room and sees the waiting cabinet assembled in person and by videophone. Tom explains the proposal to remove Wayne from office. Dr. Weld gives testimony, so do Wayne and Daniels. Then they wait.

In a “Just call me Susan” moment, Doyle calls Nadia up to his office. He wants her to sneak into Milo’s computer to see if he accidentally used the wrong security parameters. She naturally balks, but Doyle tells her either the snooping will be done quietly, or in front of the rest of CTU, her choice. She chooses the quiet method.

The cabinet votes – and it’s 7 to 7. The AG explains that since a majority vote was needed to remove Wayne, clearly a split vote means he can stay. Smiles all around until Daniels throws in a monkey wrench. I think he was aiming for Karen Hayes. Hey, actually he was aiming for her; he claims her vote was invalid, as she wasn’t technically a cabinet member. (Remember Tom forced her to resign a few hours previous?) Now they need to put the issue in front of the Supreme Court.

Daniels takes a moment to pull Tom aside:

“I don’t think you’re on my side. I picked you first for Bunker Beach Volleyball, and this is how you repay me?”

“Well, I still have sand in my… you know, but more importantly I’m on the side of the good ol' U.S. of A., and if you thought otherwise, you were very much mistaken.”

With those words Tom just drew a line in that sand. Way to cowboy up, Mister Lennox!

What IS Doyle doing? He has Nadia do the sneaky peeky thing into Milo’s workstation, she did find that Milo had made a boo-boo, but then Doyle says, ”No worries – we’ll just pretend it didn’t happen.” Isn’t this something like his friend Johnson pulled last week? What is going on with this dude?

At the end, the Prez does something so unexpected that it should be expected! Just when you think you know what's going on...

This was great, MK. It caught me up for the episode tonight. That thing with Gredenko's arm is...well, reminds me of Jack cutting off Chase's arm in Season 3. I guess Jack and Fayed are not so different in some ways.
