TV Recap: Entourage Season Five Opener, "Fantasy Island"

After what always seems like too long a wait, our boys came back Sunday night in the season five opener of Entourage, HBO’s half-hour original series. In the very briefest of re-caps, last season brought Vince (Adrian Grenier) and his beloved Medellin that much closer to the light of day. Also, Johnny Drama’s (Kevin Dillon) good luck on the series Five Towns continued, much to everyone’s relief. Ari (Jeremy Piven) was finally rehired as Vince’s agent, E (Kevin Connolly) started his own management company, nearly – but not quite – securing Anna Faris as a client, and Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) kept doing what he does best, being in the right place with the right girls, best booze, and wicked weed.

And the season closed at the Cannes Film Festival, that Mediterranean Mecca for partying and deal-making. Vince and friends were living large and stepping easy as they positioned Medellin for a huge sale. Money, lots and lots of money, was waved around in front of Vince in the form of gold Rolexes and Cristal champagne. Phone calls were made, lots and lots of phone calls to loosen wallets and create hype for the film. Ari, as always, delivered lots and lots in the cursing department. Finally, it’s premiere time. And we were left wondering if those were really Rolex watches, or the Cartier Tank – because tank is what Medellin did. Hugely. Sadly.

Boos, lots and lots of boos.

And now Vince is hanging out — or is that hiding out? — on a gorgeous Mexican beach, while E is at home watching Richard Roeper and Michael Phillips (playing themselves) burying Medellin in a particularly savage review. He and Johnny (who is still hooked up, albeit virtually, with his French sweetie, Jacqueline) are properly pissed off, while Ari deals with all the fallout at the office. He’s still #1 at cursing, God bless him.
