TV Recap: 24 Day Seven, Hour Seven - A Bug's Life

Part of: Bauer Power

The afternoon hour on Day Seven brings us more Bill and Chloe action. It’s neat to see Bill doing field ops after being on the inside for so long. Chloe has not brandished a gun for several seasons; she does just fine with her computers and her attitude. (But it sure would be swell to see her with maybe just a snub .38 at least.)

Now, I’m not sure what Bill’s marital status is; he was married to Karen Hayes during Day Six, but there was discord when she was forced to fire him as director of CTU. There seemed to be a peaceful understanding between the two before the day was over, but she has not been mentioned that I know of since the start of this new day.

To see him and Chloe together reminds me of a married couple, not in a romantic sense, but in a sense of two people who spend a lot of time together, and have enough mutual trust to let a few snipes come out between them. Later in the hour when Bill asks Chloe to work her geek magic she responds:

“It’s going to take me 20 minutes to task a satellite!”

“Then don’t waste time talking about it!”

Oooh, harsh one, Bill.

So where were Bill and Chloe going? Along with Tony, Jack, and the un-buried Renee, they are following the signal from Matobo’s tooth transmitter, right to the office building where Dubaku and Nichols have their secret lair.

About this “lair”, it really cracks me up. Why does it have to be lit so awkwardly dark, with the important/high-tech/computer greenish lights blinking like crazy, as if they were working the Command Center of the Universe or something? I guess Dubaku prescribes to the scheme of hiding in plain sight, right in the middle of a respectable office building. Talk about incongruous!

But slowly and steadily our Scooby Gang of Jack, Bill, Tony, and Renee are creeping, sliding, squirming, sweeping, and more creeping – closer and closer to the Matobos. Shh!

It is pretty sweet, huh. I should get 'little Jack' and I can put him with my Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh)figure from Crouching Tiger. What fun they could have!

'Speaking of pulling things up on computers, when the flunkies need to tell President Taylor that they think they have Dubaku's next target, are they trying to insinuate that her nice flat screen TV is wired in such a way that all Tim or whoever has to do is press a button on a remote and voila - instant disaster simulation graphics are up and shiny clean and ready for action on her TV?'

I'm so glad that you mentioned this! I noticed it right away when I was watching the ep. I loved how Tim just had that remote handy - and an instant flip from "CNB" to the graphic. (I guess you're not supposed to think too deep into the logistics of it all!)
