As Allison convenes with her Cabinet, her Secretary of Homeland Security states he can’t support her choices, and she asks him to resign. She reminds the rest of the cabinet that her oath as President involves keeping other countries strong and making tough choices.
Speaking of tough, poor Henry realized he some feeling and strength in his hands and is able to fight Gedge enough so that he loses his balance and they both topple off the balcony down to the living room level. Gedge is dead. Henry is going to be sore tomorrow. But how will he get out of this fix?
Remember Nichols? He arrives at the hangar with his group of goons, sees only Tony in command who tells him that Emerson and Jack are dead. Since Nichols has been ordered by Dubaku to get rid of Emerson and his posse, this is pleasant news. As his men draw their weapons on Tony, Jack, who has been tucked away in a rafter, opens fire on them. Then Nichols takes the Matobos and drives away, not knowing that Chloe is tracking their movements.
But Dubaku has the last laugh now. Since Allison will not move her troops, he targets a chemical plant in Ohio that once disrupted – could lead to the deaths of thousands.
Here’s hoping next week will bring Henry safely back home, that the Matobos don’t suffer very much while with Dubaku, and that perhaps at least someone will take a damn lunch break!
Misplaced Jack-ism of the week. I’ve been mentioning how others are speaking Jack Bauer’s trademark lines – mostly the Dammit-ing. And this hour gave us “son of a bitch” spoken by none other than the President, upon witnessing the deadly plane collision outside her office window.

'Meanwhile, Bill and Chloe have arrived at that abandoned construction site to dig up Renee. This has me stumped, when or where did Jack or Tony get the opportunity to call them?'
Jack's wearing a wire.
"Matobo asks [Chloe] if she’s FBI. "No, I’m a stay-at-home Mom."'
Best line of the season so far. By a long way.

Thanks Doc D. I should have known that. (OK how long has he been wearing it? Since he first met up with B&C?)
Yeah, Chloe's line was awesome. I hope we get plenty more like that from her.

Yes, since then.
As far as Henry making it home safe, I'm afraid that because Gedge put his fingerprints on the knife, it's going to look as if he slaughtered Sam in a paroxysm of rage and then offed the gallant Gedge who was attempting to restrain him. There's some mileage still in this sub-plot!

Yeah, I hate that. But I agree good mileage. And SS Agent Vossler is still lurking. Me no likey.

So: I've been reading a lot of comments and perspectives over the web that discuss and hint at Jack being killed off soon. As in next season, which will be the close for 24. (The only way this wouldn't happen would be because the producers want to make a 24 movie.) What are people's thoughts here on it? Personally, I don't like the idea of it, and it's rather toning down my enthusiasm for day 7. I'm almost not willing to become emotionally involved, which is disappointing...
Should I feel sad/let down that after all Jack's been through, they're hinting at a really sad ending? (which is a lot of cases in life.) Funny how we often crave that storybook ending; let's face it, not a reality for Jack Bauer...

Sorry for the delay in response Clare.
I hear ya. But - it's the age old challenge of keeping yourself open to good stuff despite the chance of pain. Sure, this is just a TV show, but we do become invested in fiction, just as we do in real folk.
I don't particularly care for that death of JB scenario - but I would not regret my viewing.
