TV Recap: 24 Day Seven, Hour 6 - Bill and Chloe’s Excellent Adventure on Wheels

Part of: Bauer Power

Okay, where is lunch? The only one who was seen eating (and this was the previous hour) was Sam. And, as we’ll learn, those moments of gustatory pleasure were for naught.

Sean Hillinger receives some audio feed that indicates that Renee will soon – if not already – be killed. He begins to offer condolences to Moss, who promptly goes ballistic. Meanwhile, Bill and Chloe have arrived at that abandoned construction site to dig up Renee. This has me stumped, when or where did Jack or Tony get the opportunity to call them? Anyway, they brief Renee as to Jack and Tony’s real Secret Squirrel positions within the shadowy realm of the Agency That Must Not Be Named or Governed by Anyone Who Appears The Slightest Bit Untrustworthy, in other words, Bill and Chloe’s Excellent Adventure on Wheels.

A side note – just like L.A., the greater D.C. area must be ripe with unused real estate – places perfect for torturing hostages, storing nuclear devices, meet-ups with the world’s baddies – how frickin’ advantageous is this? On the way to the abandoned hangar or wherever Emerson and friends are headed, out comes the deep dark secret – how was Tony shuffled out of CTU several years back, and remain alive? As it turned out, our friend Chris Henderson (Robocop) was the inside help. Wow.

With just the right amount of drama, Emerson grabs Jack, and pointing a gun at him, Tony follows Mexican Stand-off Protocol and trains his gun on Emerson; J&T have dispatched Emerson’s goons, and incapacitated Emerson.

Shortly Bill, Chloe, and Renee rendezvous with Jack and Tony. Renee is now confused, and wonders why Jack did not trust her with this information back at the FBI. He points to the Uppercase Writing Indicating Something Very Important Has Been Said several paragraphs above, and Renee and her freckles nod knowingly.

    Jack's wearing a wire.

"Matobo asks [Chloe] if she’s FBI. "No, I’m a stay-at-home Mom."'

Best line of the season so far. By a long way.

Thanks Doc D. I should have known that. (OK how long has he been wearing it? Since he first met up with B&C?)

Yeah, Chloe's line was awesome. I hope we get plenty more like that from her.

    Yes, since then.

As far as Henry making it home safe, I'm afraid that because Gedge put his fingerprints on the knife, it's going to look as if he slaughtered Sam in a paroxysm of rage and then offed the gallant Gedge who was attempting to restrain him. There's some mileage still in this sub-plot!

Yeah, I hate that. But I agree good mileage. And SS Agent Vossler is still lurking. Me no likey.

So: I've been reading a lot of comments and perspectives over the web that discuss and hint at Jack being killed off soon. As in next season, which will be the close for 24. (The only way this wouldn't happen would be because the producers want to make a 24 movie.) What are people's thoughts here on it? Personally, I don't like the idea of it, and it's rather toning down my enthusiasm for day 7. I'm almost not willing to become emotionally involved, which is disappointing...

Should I feel sad/let down that after all Jack's been through, they're hinting at a really sad ending? (which is a lot of cases in life.) Funny how we often crave that storybook ending; let's face it, not a reality for Jack Bauer...

Sorry for the delay in response Clare.

I hear ya. But - it's the age old challenge of keeping yourself open to good stuff despite the chance of pain. Sure, this is just a TV show, but we do become invested in fiction, just as we do in real folk.

I don't particularly care for that death of JB scenario - but I would not regret my viewing.
